Just saw this today and since it seems to be the first of the summer blockbusters I think a thread is in order!
Overall it was good fun, 6-7 out of ten. It suffers from the usual problem with origin story films in that the last act is a bit rushed as a villian is hastly created for our new hero to battle. The acting is quite good for this kind of thing although Terrence Horward really gets nothing to do (edit: I have read that this changes in the sequel, he is going to become 'War Machine' or something). Paltrow was suprisingly good, particularly with the banter and chemistry between her and Downey Jr. Robert Downey Jr. carries his first headlining big budget movie very well and there is much more to his character than the charming bastard in the previews.
Jon Favreau does well in the directors chair. While not up to the level of say Speilberg or Cameron when it comes to action set-pieces it is much much better than the ADD, hyper cutting of Transformers and the like.
A good start to Iron Man's film career and I am now quite interested in what will most likely be far superior sequels.

Did you stay to the end of the credits? Apparently Samuel L. Jackson's cameo as Nick Fury is at the end.

Shit! I stayed while Iron Man the song was playing but left after that.

Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 90+ rating as of now. I'd still watch it even if that wasn't the case, since I get to watch it for free.

Can't wait to catch this one - hopefully <strike>next week</strike> TONIGHT! Looks like solid popcorn, same goes for Indy.

All this "stay until after the credits" shit has got to stop.

The theatre here is having 8:00 pm, 10:00 pm, and 12:01 am showings tomorrow. I'm hoping I'll be able to grab the midnight screening after I get off work. Very different crowd, and the enthusiasm is amusingly over-the-top. I don't anticipate movie-goers in costume for this one, but I may be surprised.:p

Something to note: the trailers did spoil some of the enjoyment of the film, particularly in regards to Downey Jr's quips. Now I still liked it but I probably would have even rated this as high as 8/10 if it was entirely fresh. So avoid all the trailers, if you haven't already, and just go see it if you're in the mood for some popcorn fun.

My film-going quirk is that I have always stopped to watch the film until after the credits, both just in case there's something afterwards but also as a kinda weird courtesy to all those involved, to at least sit through their names scrolling up the screen.

Tony Stark may be the most awesome character in cinema.
Like, ever.
Also fuck waiting for the end of the credits unless you're some massive comic geek who wants to pop a boner at Sam Jackson in an eye-patch name-dropping SHIELD like he's Vic Mackay's bitch.
