Conversations are not tied to the Efficiency Settings. They only start after the player crosses a Bounds Trigger or a trigger roombrush (or any other means of activation, really).
Nowadays disabling these settings doesn't have much impact. Disorientation for instance has most of its AIs with disabled Efficiency Settings.

Why do so many taffers seem to have a problem with the Cragscleft cameras? What I do is go behind a corner and lean away from the wall. Then I slowly turn my head towards the doorway until I can just barely see the edge of the camera as it's rotating. You can just barely see it, while just barely being hidden from it. It's kinda like waiting for stationary NPCs to turn by looking at their arm from behind a corner.
