The "it has other, worse" is implied?
Not that I've been able to find. Discord is from what I've been able to tell a more feature rich version of an IRC-style communication tool with built in chat history.

Hasn't this thread started off talking about a workaround for IRC servers not saving the chat history? I guess I might not be aware of other issues with Discord but that isn't one of them.

I'm not too put off by lack of a chat history, I'm happy to partake in conversations while I'm present and don't need to know every single thing I've missed when I'm not around. What makes Discord intolerable is its inability to display more than one chat window at a time. Prior to the closure of Starchat I was connected to it and Sorcery, had #thief on Starchat plus two Sorcery channels open, and Mirc happily displays them all simultaneously in tiled windows. (Used to have Undernet in that mix too, ages ago.) Discord doesn't do that. If I want to see what's happening in channel B, I have to leave channel A; if I want to see what's happening on server Y, I have to switch out of server X. It's an infuriating and frankly inexplicable limitation.

Good grief, people are very sensitive these days.

For me it's that and the fact Discord is proprietary.
...and now I feel severely tempted to start a Thief room on Matrix, with a bridge to IRC and possibly with a bridge to Discord.
