OK, I am almost ready to forgive "Deus Ex 2: Invisible War" for it's heresy and play an OK game called "Invisible War". I really think this will help me :p
Anyway, I was wondering about how to get it up to full working order - I have access to the US and Euro versions of the game. I also intend to use the uber texture pack, which means I'm leaning towards US version right now. Should I patch it or not? Any INI tweaks which will benefit my sanity? More mods that could be used?
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: After some poking around, I noticed that Walton... uh... Warren Spector posted some .INI tweaking guides on the ION Storm forums. Unfortunately, something bad has happened to said forums and archive.org has failed me. Anyone have a copy of this guide?

If you have access to the US version and are planning on using the texture pack(s), I would recommend using that game version (US).
When installed, update to version 1.2 using the official patch. Then install any texture packs you'd like (my Cumulative pack last).
As for tweaks, I usually just remove the startup movies from Default.ini under [PC Startup].
I'm sure there are numerous other tweaks, but I think the most annoying stuff was fixed with the 1.2 release, like mouse lag setting etc.
You can also download DXTool to tweak it a little further(HUD etc.).
You can download the packs, DXTool, and the official game patch (

They were pretty much the settings I went with, and it seems to be working OK. The only thing I'm wondering about now is what size to set the cache to - I currently have 512MB of RAM, hopefully upgraded to 2GB after the xmas stuff clears. Is there a ratio of cache/ram, or is it more trial-and-error?

l'm also thinking about getting IW, but there has been such a barrage of criticism levelled at so many aspects of the game that l am hesitant. l haven't played DX yet, so l have no frame of reference, but most of the comments l've read comparing the two are highly negative. l'm more for story than gameplay, so what l'd like to know is does the unfolding story of IW overcome the apparently horrendous design flaws? l mean the in-game mechanic that advances the plot, the quality of the story, and the eventual ending as well. if that journey is worth enduring the shortcomings of the game l'll install john p's textures and play through, otherwise l'll skip it.

I'd say play IW. The beginning is a drag, especially if you want to replay the game, but it does get better after that. It's nowhere near as good as DX, but is still better than most games.
