Anyone care to impart some advice on managing the inventory? Years of typical "the 5 platemails in my backpack don't matter 'cause I've got the Boots of Haste" RPGs have kind of spoiled me in this area and I've formed a bit of a packrat instinct.
Okay, so this is the general layout of my inventory now:

The suits I've just been hauling around to find a trader to sell them to, since just regular NPCs along the way don't seem to want them, and as for the weapons, paranoia. I've looked around and I think I'll install a weapon repair mod so I can keep the increased refire AK as the only one for that type of ammo, and I suppose I should stash away the SMG and its ammo. Sound like a good idea, or should I keep the SMG in case I run out of rounds for the Kalash?
Also, I heard that there are safe corpses to stash items in. I assume that means corpses that were put there by the level designers, as opposed to those put there by you? There's this one bloke who appears to be part of the decor at the entrance of Agroprom Underground, anyone know if he's "safe" for storage?

I usually find a stash and keep my goodies in there. Unless you have one of those mods where NPCs loot everything.

No, no such mod for me, I'm fairly sure. I don't know why I'd just gotten the idea that the stashes might spawn new inventory and replace whatever I left in there. Guess it was just paranoia.
Well, so far, that corpse there appears to be decent storage. I'll just have to remember to pick up the more important stuff when I'm done with the Agroprom area, and maybe head back to Sidorovichi to sell the suits. If I recall correctly, after I get the papers from Agroprom proper, I'm supposed to drop them off at some bartender guy - is he also a full trader, or is Sid the only one?

The bartender is, as well.
As for the stashes, I think you just need to avoid putting your stuff in stashes that haven't spawned yet. (you don't have the location on your PDA.)

Cheers for the advice! I'll stick to stashes I've got on the PDA, then.

Bartender is the MAIN trader in the game ;) I, personally, always keep my stuff in the Bar or Freedom base (the latter later in the game).

That sewer dude should be safe, however its a horrible location. Useless for anything other than an emergency stash unless you like fighting alot just to pick up some meds or ammo.
Dead dude near the truck at the Bar entrance is safe for stuffing. Ya gotta carry him inside tho else the dogs prolly gonna drag him away. :p

Drop the sausages and most of the tuna (looks like tuna cans to me) and energy drinks and you'll already shave off about ten kilos. You'll never need that many healthpacks, bandages or anti-rads either. I also wouldn't carry that extra jacket with me.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I've gotten to the bar and there's a stash box there I've taken to using. Dropped the H&K and its ammo, some of the healthpacks, food and the like, sold the jackets... All in all, too me down to about 43Kg, iirc, and that's cause I was still being conservative.
Which was all fine, except I've moved into Wild Territory to find the missing rifle (done), but now I'm loaded with some new 5.56 Nato weaponry and I can't go drop stuff over at the bar (which is just 5 minutes away) because if I leave the area I fail this mission to escort this doc in a green suit somewhere. So now I'm running around just 100 grams below the point of immobility trying to fight off packs of mercs while protecting this otherwise surprisingly bellicose dumbass.
