If I may suggest someone: Al_B is an experienced and friendly server administrator. When we needed to move systemshock.org quickly he set up our new server in no time, keeping an eye on security (eg public/private key logins) and maintenance (incremental rotating database and file backup system). Apart from being knowledgeable he's just a cool and patient guy. Also he's British, I think. You couldn't find a better man for the job.
As for myself: I'd love to be able to fix the forum theme sometime. Also if dethtoll becomes a mod I would like to become dethtoll's moderator. Checks and balances, you know. :D

I don't know if this has been going on for a long time already, but I just logged on and saw this on the "Currently Active Users" list:
(

10 accounts with those totally random
wrsuagzcc54as kind of nonsense names online at the same time? Is that common these days or have the spambots breached through the security questions and stuff in the registration process?
Then I refreshed the page and there were like
another 10 spambot accounts on the list. And the names seem to change every few minutes when I refresh. Where do they all come from? :erg:
All (or at least most) of those accounts have been created some time this week, but so far they haven't posted anywhere (as far as I know...)
However, these names don't seem to show up in the Member List (under the Community dropdown menu) so perhaps those accounts aren't fully activated yet and they aren't even able to post?

Yes, they've been having a systematic go for a few weeks now.
These are new registrations waiting for email confirmation of acceptance. They get checked at that point and obviously, they aren't getting accepted so they don't pose a threat in so far as posting is concerned.
It's not particularly desirable to have them cluttering everything up so Al_B is looking at ways of stopping them from registering in the first place. And hopefully, something will be in place in the next week or so which we'll monitor as best we can and hope it does the trick. But, we're deleting them several times a day and I think it's keeping them under control. I think only one (with a real name) has slipped through in the last few months.
