Internet drops, but only when I play games... that don't need it - by june gloom

Been noticing something weird going on lately. I'm not sure if this has been an issue before Hurricane Ike knocked our power out, but it's definitely something I've been noticing the last week or so.
It seems that whenever I play Thief, my DSL modem will reset, and often- I can tell because of the light blinking. This happens every 5-10 minutes I'm playing the game. At first I thought it was just Thief 1/2 but I fired up The Nameless today out of boredom and it happens with that game too.
It doesn't do this when I'm not playing a game.
What's the deal? It's a Lucent Cellpipe, by the way, and I've had it since 2003.

Is it plugged into the same mains/fuse circuit as the computer? I'm thinking that when playing games, the bit of extra power draw on the computer's side may result in the modem not getting enough anymore. Only reason for a connection between the two events that I can think of.

I figured out the problem by watching my modem any time I did anything in Thief that involved a screen change. My modem was somewhat underneath the monitor, and any time the monitor drew or stopped drawing a full-screen application, or indeed did anything that involved a change in resolution (including viewing readables in Thief!) some sort of interference would make the modem reset.
I moved the modem away a bit and moved the monitor over a little bit the other way and I haven't had a problem.
