Some of you may have noticed I am a bit... cranky on here. No, really ¬¬
Well, to be perfectly honest, I think I have a problem. I come on here and most of the time I'm fine but every now and again someone makes a remark or whatever and the red mist descends and I'm writing bilious shite and sounding like some sort of World Wide Web Warrior.
Then later on I look back and think "Did I really write those words? Man, what an asshole" and wondering how I'm gonna rescue my reputation from the gutter (again) and how I'm gonna unpiss off all those people I pissed off.
Well, I want to apologise for recent outbursts, cos that really ain't me (well, I mean it is me, but it isn't "me", that shit's not my bag) but more importantly... does anyone else get this? And if so, could you impart some of your knowledge as to how to stop it please. I don't like to sound like Cyber Hitler; it upsets other people and it makes me seem like a right jerk. Is there any way I can stop Internet forums bringing out the worst in me?

shut the hell up
...
But it's not your fault if that's the way you are. Might as well be honest, right?

Take a look at some of my post history from the Archived Days. I was a regular idiot troll with a lot of my views back in the day - this was partly due to a sheltered upbringing and partly due to a stimulating arrival on INTERNET. I make no apologies for who I was... I don't think I truly became an adult in a sense that I understand until I was 21, even now I'm still struggling with concepts of adulthood.
Where it goes wrong is when you can't accept that your opinion is contrary to someone else's and that this isn't going to change on a fundamental level - there are certain things debate can bring about change in and then there are the apples and oranges of life. You have to understand where there's a cause worth arguing and where there's a dead loss - in a small way, this might mean dying a little on the inside with regards to a specific ideology or philosophy, but it's only Internet fer crying out loud.
For example, I've had my eyes opened a few times with regards to political rhetoric, homosexuality hyperbole and general misconceived bullshit that gets spouted around and around. This forum, especially with its ragged band of intellectual miscreants, wiseass know-it-alls and bookish academics, is a place where you can learn and grow.
The learning and growing is where I think you're having difficulty, and I do believe it stems from a lack of willingness to accept diversity of opinion - even if that opinion is wildly different from your own.
Also, Piglick has a point - a while back I decided that I wasn't on the internet, I was on INTERNET and there's a whole different concept at play there.

Yeah, sometimes. These days I often leave the reply page open and read other threads or whatever for ten minutes or so, then take another look at it before posting.

I quite often write out posts then just press the back button and forget about them. Just think, do you REALLY NEED to post that post. Probably not! :D

I know how you feel Strontium. I'm the same way, except I'm like that on or off the internet. >.>

Heh, me too. Anyway, internet is just a playground for me. I log on, read stuff by people w/similar backgrounds and/or interests, and post whatever comes to mind (while attempting not to cross the proverbial line so I can come back). Sounds like YOU know "the real you". What else matters?
