Could a mod please change the title to add the word "another" or somethingNow I am new to the game and Dark engine, I do not even know her limits. So I seek help in learning how to open and replace textures.
I just feel with better textures, I could give the game even more atmosphere, make it look like a real ship, with a bit of dirt here in there. Because right now it might as well be a brandnew hospital, it's so sterile.
I see I am having a hard time being taken seriously, so I will post some past work.
After and before:

http://img291.imageshack.us/img291/9949/myeyebd0.jpgI want to make a quality mod, with consistent effort and skill trough out. Not just to make things less blurry, but to actually ADD detail and atmosphere.
I, of course, would be assuming the position of texture artist. It is a big task, but I think with time I can tackle it.

Well le gasp.
Now I must try to find some media. x.x
edit:
Ok SHTUP I really do not like from any of the pictures.
I can not find any media for Rebirth but since they are doing all the characters...
I will make my own version of SHTUP. And no, if you think I am doing it for attention your sadly mistaken.
But still, thank you for the info. At least I know what is out there now.
edit:
Or I might try to join the SHTUP team, whatever comes first.

Updating the Dark Engine isn't going to happen; we don't have the source.
Rebirth is no longer being updated. If you can't find any screenshots, it's not really that hard to install the mod and see them for yourself. Alternatively, there's a meleé-only walkthrough for SS2 linked to from the third line of my sig. There are some screenshots with Rebirth models in it.
Regarding SHTUP, all it does is replace some of the lower quality textures with high quality counterparts. I don't see how you would like the original textures better, especially since there were no exceedingly drastic alterations.

Some things just looked so out of place. Decals didint blend at all, bad outlines.
Anyway. I want to be a little more drastic, only for walls and things, not decals yet.
and the first link in your sig wont allow me access. Maybe since I am a new member?
Also I was not holding my breath for the shaders.

Please edit your post to change those screenshost to links, the forum rules don't allow inline images greater than 800 pixels in width (because they're breaking this post and adding sideways scrollbars, yuck!)
SHTUP's goal is basically to recreate the original textures in higher resolution and quality, while staying as close to the original artwork as possible.
No one has made a project to recreate the terrain / wall textures yet. With the new version of DDFix, this it's now possible to use textures higher than 256x256 for terrain, without even needing to modify all the original missions, so a terrain recreation project is feasible.
I don't think anyone ever made the CCP forum public, Enchantermon... why are you linking to a forum no one can access? :D

That sterile look is entirely intentional. The Von Braun looks sparkling and new because, within the game fiction, it is sparkling and new. What you're proposing is a deviation from the game's fundamental design aesthetic, the very aesthetic which sets SS2 apart from the generic techno-grunge art direction of most other FPSs out there.
In light of this, SS2 fandom probably won't consider a greasy, grimy Von Braun to be an improvement. If you really want to help make SS2 look better, you should embrace its art direction, not reject it. Give the game a runthrough with SHTUP installed. Keep an eye out for things you think you could improve.

Well I can at least improve the walls at least. You have to remember tough that people are living in this ship, and lots more died. And the sparkly new look seems more and more like a simple hardware limitation when I see blood decals, debris all over the place and exposed pipes. Oh also piles of disgusting worms scattered about.
Now I am not going to make the ship look ancient and greasy, but it sure as hell aint sterile.

This is the same engine that was used to create the first two Thief games.

Also, the Rickenbacker has a dirtier, grungier look than the Von Braun.
