A time or two now I've clicked on the space bar to pick up some object in the game only to be greeted by the dreaded 'Bab Memory Marker' warning/alert followed by a quick CTD exit. Argh! I says & curse the game coders yet again.
Until just yesterday, when something happened that made me think this just might be user-friendly intelligent game coding of a very high order. Had previously been in the Cavern Shal for no particular reason other than I stumbled across it while exploring. After clearing out the baddies, I was going about the usual business of booty looting when I clicked on some stuff & got the 'Bab Memory Marker' warning/alert followed by a quick CTD exit. RATS! Later for this stuff I thought. Left & went on to something else.
Wouldn't you know it! W/in 24 hrs, I get a Mage Guild quest to go take care of the Shal Cavern mage gone over to the other side & now become a necromancer. Uh oh, I thought. I think I've already dispatched said foe. But off we go just to see what would happen next. & this is where it gets surprisingly weird & wonderful. Not only did I this time not get the 'Bad Memory Marker' CTD when clicking on those goods positioned just as they were the day before but the game also 'intelligently' re-spawned the needed mage foe so that I could complete the quest.
I've heard of peeps f'g up some guild or faction advancement sequence by offing someone too soon but I've never heard of the game later replacing a nec NPC so as to be able to complete some quest. Anyone else ever experience this? Or is it a good day for me to buy a lottery ticket?

Off the top of my head, I'd say it's lotto time ;)

I'd say that the Bad Memory marker CTD isn't a consistant thing. Also, some NPC's aren't spawned uitil their quest is activated, which may have been in this case.

Striker, If that is the case, i.e., that some NPCs aren't spawned until called for via some quest, then yes, I'd say that's coding of a very high order, cuz it sure is easy to encounter & dispose of them too soon. In fact, the longer I play, the more hesitant I am about just willynilly exploring & shooting myself in the foot in this manner. To clarify, the NPC nec for the completion of this particular Mage Guild quest DID get spawned the first time around, before I had received/volunteered for this particular Mage Guild 'Duty'. I was just wondering if somehow the game, cuz of my chosen path thru the game, intuited my later need for this NPC & thus provided the convenient CTD routine. Altho...I had already offed the nec NPC just prior to the CTD & then the game subsequently returned her when needed. Pro'ly no way of knowing for sure.

Hrm.. I'd be willing to lay out cash that you just lucked out, jstnomega; the only place where the 'resurrect' call is used is on the gateway haunt, and besides, as Striker said they usually just 'disable' really critical NPCs until the quest is given.
