"If we make it white and shiney, they will buy it...those fools will buy anything white and shiney...[insert evil laugh here]." - Apple executive thought

I'm a Mac user and I think the ad is pretty twatty too. But then so are most PC users' opinions of Macs.

Just when I thought the worst that could happen is that Such Great Heights was eventually going to be ruined by its continual commerical airplay...
AND THERE IT IS.

What is so fucking magnificent about Macs that makes them SOOOO much better than PCs? Isn't it really all down to the software? PCs have most of the apps (esp games) and WinXP is a solid OS. THAT'S RIGHT YOU PRETENTIOUS MAC OWNERS: MICROSOFT HAS PUT OUT A GOOD OS!

:wtf:
You evidently don't have to administrate it, then. Or code for it. If you did, you wouldn't be singing its praises...
On the other hand, a book titled 'Coding For X' would probably display a razor blade, a bottle of pills and noose on the front cover. GUI programming in Linux isn't much better than WinXP.
I haven't coded for the Mac before but it uses Apple's own proprietary windowing system, which is probably just as bad as the other two.
All Software Sucks, All Hardware Sucks, etc.

Unsurprisingly, most people don't administrate networks or code software packages.
And with that in mind, WinXP is a pretty-easy-to-use software package that can run games, a web browser, photoshop, a music player and various warez-seeking devices. That's pretty much the extent of home users right there

So, Im confused. Macs are for those so fucking stupid they cant blink in unison, AND for super smart scientists doing mysterious experiments? While the rest of us are stuck with our dreary tricked out ripped gaming pc's? Im not sure if I should be angry or not

If you use XP at home, then you'll need to administer it. :)

OSX can do all of the above, and also run another graphical environment: X11.
I myself found OSX to be more easy to use, but then again, some friends who have gotten accustomed to use Windows said they found OSX to be harder to use.
I would like to see more games released on OSX and because of that, I think that the Intel CPU transition could be a good thing.

Argh, I'll bite.
Speaking as a former PC gaming enthusiast nut who dismissed the other side because all he knew was Windows and/or couldn't afford anything else, I decided to stop being obstinate and actually purchase and use one for a length of time, which was the best move I've ever made. Apple are obviously no saints, same as Microsoft, but they make incredibly quality products. Simple and elegant are good things, not something to snub your nose at because you're so "technical" or whatever.
For me the largest benefit is absolutely zero maintenance. Zero. No babysitting, no tweaking, no padlocking, no paranoia, no slop, no scanning for shitware/viruses (there aren't any), no defragging, registry cleaning, no bogging down after a few months, no cleaning up after installs/uninstalls (Mac apps are 1 icon) or being scared to install programs that might make a mess of your system, no installing drivers, no dealing with fuckups and weird bullshit that cause you to crawl the web for answers and test 20 different configurations to figure out (yeah, go on, pretend you've never had a problem). Not having to care about what type of compliant PSU to use and which hard drive standard to give a shit about. On and on. You get a Mac and and the hardware and software are harmonious, and shit just works beautifully. It is pitiful having to support the myriad of Windows problems and setup procedures at work.
Every app is of astonomically higher quality (the whole smarter and elegant UI thing) and there's nothing you can't do. Yeah, the whole quality vs. quanity argument. I've nabbed 10 games so far, even though apparently (
http://www.gamedb.com/ssps) Macs (
http://www.insidemacgames.com/) can't (
http://www.macgamestore.com/) game (consoles are where it's at now anyways for a headache-free experience, you can cover the bases between the two). And the best thing? PCs sell for a palty amount because nobody wants em, but Macs retain their value almost to the end; sell your old one and get an entire system upgrade for practically nothing.
And being on an Intel Mac makes it all the more exciting; I'm eager for the day I can throw Windows into a virtual environment to finally be able to play Thief again. :)

I have not used OS X. However, the amount of pain, and suffering OS 9 inflicted upon me is by far and wide much greater then what I went through with Win 95, 98, 2000, and XP combined.
As for why I'm not giving OS X a chance - the subject of this thread (And Apple's indisputable belief that everything that comes out of their ass is worth its weight in gold - change a hard-drive in one of their desktops on their on-line store, and the price jumps up by 300$. For those 300$, I could buy two of those hard-drives at a local store) is precisely the reason for why I'm never going to buy anything Apple.
