Dracflamloc's installer works very well for me.
I followed the installation instructions for the editor above except for the startup shortcut, and except for renaming thief3editor (what I called the editor folder) to thief3: I left the folder names as-is.
Then I installed the launcher and ran it. It pops up a tiny dialog box with the editor on the left -- path above and button below -- and the game on the right.
Then I changed both paths to the correct paths for my system. Now, I can launch the launcher, click on the editor button, and I'm in the editor; or I can launch the launcher, click on the game button, and presto, I'm in the game itself. Simple!
I like this a lot better than having to rename folders every time I want to play or edit.
Now if I can only figure out how actually to use this Thief 3 editor in the first place.... :eww:

Argh! I added editor to the end and removed the quotes, but now it says 'C:/Program' is not a valid path. The path i have is 'C:\Program Files\Thief3 Edit\System\T3.exe editor', minus the 's.
also, why do you have to reinstall t3?

You'll need quote marks in there if the name of a folder has spaces in it. Try it C:\"Program Files"\"Thief3 Edit"\ instead.
I think the reinstall thing is just to ensure you have a clean install, and that there's no custom stuff floating about in there to cause problems.

when i do it says that it isnt valid.
"The name 'C:\Program Files\Thief3 Edit\System\T3.exe editor' is not valid"

Right you are. Sorry, I was just guessing there. Try it with "C:\Program Files\Thief3 Edit\System\T3.exe" editor (with the quotes around the path and the 'editor' following outside) - mine's working with that on the equivalent install path. Or possibly reinstall so that the pathname doesn't have spaces, I guess.

hmm... that worked. but then a window popped up. lemme pic it.
EDIT: okay, im using t3 launcher. what should the path look like? because 'C:\Program Files\Thief3 Edit\System\T3.exe editor' isnt working.

I believe the only thing relying on DX in Doom3 was the menu, graphically.
All effects present in the Windows build are in the Linux build.
Things like the glass distortion and heat shimmering were DX9-specific, unless I'm mistaken. I know virtually nothing about Linux or its APIs, so it could very well be capable of achieving the same effects without it. But it was hardly just for the menu.

Should be just C:\Program Files\Thief3 Edit
BTW, I did get mine to work using Dracflamloc's installer. Now I just have to find a decent tutorial on the basics of the editor. The ones in the read-me are OK, but they don't explain naming systems etc., which are needed for Tutorial 2.

The error is caused by trying to run the editor when it isn't where the system expects the directory to be, I believe. You need to rename your original installation directory to something else and name your editor directory to the original directory's name when you want to use it. Your shortcut's path probably shouldn't even be pointed be where it is actually, unless you originally installed the game to a folder called "Thief3 Edit".
