Yup, that's what I did. Exactly as described. I checked and double checked.
I hope the fact that I'm running Server 2003 isn't a problem.
It very possibly is a problem. When I tried Server 2k3 it didn't have the complete DirectX functionality available...

Hmmm, I can run T3, Doom 3 and pretty much everything I've tried on it. I hope that's not the case. I've got the latest drivers for everything and direct x 9.0c installed.
Does the error I posted set off any alarms? I noticed that there were some dll's listed as missing.

Well running doom3 wouldnt matter since it's openGL... but if Thief3 runs I don't think it should be a big problem running the editor. The missing DLLs are the debugging DLLs for Visual C++ and you shouldn't need those for this.

I always forget that D3 can actually run on a lower spec PC (graphics card) than T3 because T3 demands DirectX 9. Anyway, isn't there a basic rule that if you can run the game reasonably, you should be able to run the editor.
Now it's just learning YET ANOTHER editor... :erg: :laff:

Wow if Server 2003 has full DX support now I'll probably reinstall it... I'm still running Windows 2000.
Thief3 only requires DirectX8 functions I believe.

Yeah, it has had full support for the year or more that I've been using it. I get better performance in Thief 3 using it than I did in XP. Less choppy.
I'll have to install windows xp on a separate partition to see if it runs there. I don't know what the problem could be, I just reformatted this morning. :) Fresh uncorrupted install.

Yes, poor example. :) Far Cry, Deus Ex Invisible War! :) They ran as well.

You do realize that OpenGL games can still use DirectX, right? Doom 3 had many, many DX9 effects.

Fixed the problem.
After reading the error more carefully...and not being put off by all the gook in it. I noticed that at the very bottom of the error, the most pertinent information was listed....

3d hardware initialization failed
Twas then that I realized I forgot to install my VIA 4 in 1 drivers for the motherboard. Works like a charm now.
I'll take a peek and see what it's like. :)

I believe the only thing relying on DX in Doom3 was the menu, graphically.
All effects present in the Windows build are in the Linux build.
