I can't get the loader to work. I enter the editor directory and press launch, but nothing happens. I don't get why, because I've followed the instructions in the wiki down to the last detail.
The manual method confuses me as well. How can I rename the Thief3 Editor folder to Thief3 when both folders are situated as subdirectories of my program files folder? Should I move the editor folder elsewhere first? Won't that botch up the registry entries?

I didn't put in the slightly obvious step of renaming the Thief3 directory first because I thought it was slightly obvious ;)

It still won't work. Besides, there are two system folders in the now renamed editor folder. Both contain a file called T3. None of them launch the editor. I've tried to rename them, but that didn't help either. The best thing would be if I could get the launcher to work. Does anyone have an idea why it doesn't? I don't even get an attempt at loading or an error message. Nothing happens. Oddly the launcher works for the game folder, but not the editor folder.

You've done something wrong then, there should only be one system folder and you shouldn't be trying to launch the editor by running T3.exe, you need to create a shortcut to t3.exe and supply it with the "editor" command line. For example c:\Program Files\Thief3\system\t3.exe editor
The launcher is obviously the best way to go, but you still need to correctly install the editor for it to work. (Unzip, make INI changes, rename thief3main.exe etc)

I think you've got yourself in a bit of a muddle. Start again by making another copy of your game install, because there's no way you should have ended up with two System folders.

Hm...I've tried the short cut method, but then I get the Viktoria error. I might be a "tech challenged" idiot, but it sure is annoying that they've made this so complicated.
As for the double set of folders I'm not sure why that happened. As mentioned, I followed the instructions down to the last letter. There is a folder called Thief3 within the editor folder and it's not the game folder. That one's placed under program files. The extra Thief 3 folder might be superflous, but it doesn't seem to be identical with the game folder. Everything is so fucked up by now I think I might just give up. Can I run the upcoming FMs without having the editor myself? If so I suppose that'll be good enough for me as I'll probably won't find the time to make missions anyway.
Garrett's Mind2 on 12/3/2005 at 14:04
I take that back. They are identical. That means that I have the original installation, an extra installation and the editor, and I have no idea how it happened. This makes no sense at all. lol

EDIT: Okay, I've trashed the extra Thief3 folder. Then I tried the short cut method again for the T3 file in the correct system folder. I'm still not out of the woods though. I get the Viktoria error "could not generate log file". I tried the launcher as well and it still doesn't react. Damn.
EDIT: Here's the whole message:

I tried the whole process again. Now I don't get the Viktoria error mentioned above. For moment I thought everything was okay, then Windows all of a sudden presented me with the file finder. It says: "Find Sound Vocabulary". I tried to move down the hierarchy to the sounds folder, but nothing happens. When I try to exit I'm back to a Viktoria error after all
As far as I can tell from reading the threads, I must be the only one who has experienced this.
UPDATE: I did it all again from scratch. No double folders this time, but the launcher still fails to react and now I get the WEPaiSWORD error instead even though I've renamed the directories. Win also still prompts me to locate the sound vocabulary, but this time the relevant files are present in the browser. Not that it helped very much. If I try to open one I get the WEPaiSWORD.

I made the separate post, so that you would notice the update. Any help would be greatly appreciated guys. I'd really like to try my hand at this.

I've followed the only two sets of instructions I could find, the one here and the release one. Neither works. I get the same probs that Garrett'sMind 2 does. I was so excited, too, but I've been trying to get it working for two hours now and I'm tired. I don't understand what the issue could be, but when I try to start the editor (using a shortcut with the editor command line), then it asks me to find the sound files and opens up to a folder that contains vcb files. I have chosen each one different times only to receive that odd wikespwhatever error message with all the mumbo jumbo after it. Also, it is said at the end of the instructions in this thread to rename the thief3 edit folder to thief3 (thereby having to change the one I already purposefully named thief3) and then mentions that without renaming the directories it won't work. I don't get this, I did rename, I installed twice. I don't get it :tsktsk:
