Thx for the fast reply, TTLG rocks.

Yea for older OSes you'll need the runtime. Don't worry I won't make "FleshLoader" in VB :tsktsk:
I just wanted that launcher done real quick.
I'm making a new launcher thats a bit better. It'll be able to detect your Thief install. And you can browse for the Editor folder. It'll also be in C, not VB. Should be ready tommorow.

Before I uninstall my current T:DS, how do I keep my save games and then add them back into my new install?
Thanks,
Martek

Not to stir things up too much, but I'm using both in a single directory.
I haven't done a ton of testing (read: I haven't actually played a new map yet), but both the game and editor start up and function properly (for the editor, all I can say so far is that "it runs"). If anyone knows for a fact that a custom FM CANNOT run in the editor directory most of you have set up, or the actual game directories we all have, please post and say why, if you know.
Only six files are in direct conflict with each other, between the "game" and the "editor" folders. There's no reason I can see (yet?) why they can't just be swapped in and out as necessary. All I did was take my T3 dir (back it up first, in case you bork something up), install the editor package into it, and allow it to overwrite the four files it overwrites:
CONTENT/T3/Books/English/String_Tags/Quotes.sch
System/DEFAULT.INI
System/"Ion Launcher.exe" (quotes will be important for your batch file)
System/T3.exe
In addition to those four, it will affect your root User.INI file, and your System/T3Main.exe file.
When that's done:
1. Take those six files, and make ".game" versions of them (from the backup folder you made - you did do that, right?).
2. Similarly, make ".editor" versions of them from the four in the compressed archive, plus the other two you created by following the install instructions on page one.
3. Create two batch files - one which copies the ".game" versions to the proper names, and one which copies the ".editor" versions to the proper names. Add the proper execution commands to each batch file (e.g., "t3.exe editor", or "t3.exe" (no quotes)). Now, by launching a simple batch file, all of the swapping and setting up is handled in a second and the game, or editor, is launched.
That's really all there is to it if you think about it. Those six files are all that differ in your two (almost 100% redundant) Thief 3 folders. Swapping them intelligently saves oh, 1.5 Gb of HD space. Good enough?
As I said above - I have no idea yet if, for instance, the existence of a "Utility" folder within the game folder will some day cause a problem with something, somewhere within the game in play-mode. If someone has info please speak up. But in all likelihood, there's no real reason for two humongous T3 installs. It's all running fine here, in one. It's not difficult, it just takes some careful file handling (to repeat: backup before you start). Think it through first if you're new to this type of thing.
One more note: T3.exe takes a few seconds to terminate sometimes, so don't jump between editor and game too quickly or something might not copy correctly. Just give it a few seconds.

Interesting, I'll test this editor in game directory theory and if it's sound and stable I'll create an installation program for it that'll do it automatically.

The thing is, throughout the whole process of editing and messing with textures and meshes and junk, it may be very possible to mess up the basic installation, and I'm more comfortable with an extra installation, plus most of us have plenty of room on our large HDs these days.

Yea also you can change the scripting behavior of the default game easily and be totally unaware of the effects.

Did Faceless pretty much use this T3 editor (or something very similar) for building TDS levels? Just curious.

The saved games are stored in a directory Thief Deadly Shadows under your windows "My Documents" folder. I backed mine up just in case, but after uninstalling and reinstalling in the new path (C:\Games\Thief3) my saved games were all still accessable...
