Greetings all. I'm a long-time Thief player (21+ years ago... Time sure flies) and due to a hard disk going belly up I bought a new computer. I was able to install T2 and TDS, but when trying to install Thief GOLD on the new machine (Windows 11) and on a laptop (Win 10) I get the error "This product cannot be installed on Windows NT due to a DirectX limitation". I have searched the forums and did not find any reference to this issue (my pardon if there is and I didn't find it). I see others posting about GOLD issues so others must be able to play it. Am I doomed to just memories, and calling myself a Taffer, or is there a way around this issue? My old machine was Windows 7 and I hung onto it as long as I could, partly due to gaming reasons. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance. B

Thank you Brethren for the reply. I went to the Tfix thread and read the first post as you suggested. In the "Important notes" section it mentioned Copying the content of the two disks onto the hard drive which I did as instructed. It included the message:
"the game installer is not working, you can do a manual install - just copy the THIEF folder from both CDs to your hard drive (overwrite the folder from the first cd with the one from the second, that should make sure all the resources end up in just one folder), run TFix, and follow the instructions."
However, Tfix just tells me that a valid installation of Thief was not found, and does nothing. What am I missing? I tried letting it go to C/Games/Thief directory (doesn't exist, but was suggested by Tfix) and changing to the folder where I copied the two CDs.
Thank you for your help, but my guess is I'm missing something here. I've haven't had to install a Thief game in many years so I'm a bit out of the loop with the newer fixes/updates etc.
Any more suggestions or experiences from others who have solved the same problem are greatly appreciated.

TFix needs thief.exe to start, and if you are missing that, you probably are missing other files as well. anyway, try to give it a fake thief.exe and see what happens.
or just buy the game on GOG, it's like a pizza worth of money.

Thank you voodoo47 for the suggestion. I found the Thief.exe file and targeted Tfix to that folder, and apparently it worked, although I don't know how. It initially did nothing but when I opened Thief.exe the game launched.

This is why I use Linux now. For these older games that require such legacy support, WINE on Linux simple is just has better legacy support. Not Windows. :D

And on occasion, they are priced at $0.98 on GoG.. now that's a steal!
{just note: Steam has them for the same $0.98, or is it $0.97?? but I recommend the GoG version. Steam has some issues that make it tricky sometimes to deal with.}

GoG.. GoG
Why do so many people keep doing this? What do they think "GoG" stands for? Good of Games? Good or Games?

Well.. if someone doesn't know what GoG is by now, or how to type in gog(.com) in a browser.. then they need a different hobby.
{..and certainly someone with at least 7 contiguous brain cells knows how to ask what it stands for, if they don't know}
