Would you consider it insightful if it praised Vista?

Don't be silly, then it would just be the words of an MS fanboy.

Ah luvs ma Windows 2000, luvs it ah tells ya!
Seriously, I take no sides in any 'argument' about Microsoft, but all I do know that with Windows 2000 they had a simple and stable product that can do pretty much anything. Since then... well, aren't they just pandering to the crowd who want computers purely as a docking port for their ipods?

Maybe, maybe not...according to a Gamespot article, "DirectX 10 will increase game performance by as much as six to eight times." If this is true, that's obviously a pretty big improvement. The downside, of course, is that due to the complete overhaul DirectX10 will ONLY work with Vista, and can only be fully taken advantage of with DirectX10 cards, which don't even exist yet - it will probably be like DVD-ROMS - first we see just CD versions of games, then DVD and CD versions, then finely DVD-only versions. Too bad my fancy-schmancy graphics card will have to be replaced sooner then expected...bleh.

Exactly.
My main gripe here would be that computers are getting deeply enmeshed in the 'built in redundancy' cycle. I really don't want to use Microsoft Vista, as I am totally happy with 2000, but what if I am forced to because something requires it?
I suppose from that perspective I can see the point that anti-Microsoft people have: it's simply dangerous to have such a market strangle hold, as it gives the corporation a captive market. I mean, what am I going to do? Use Linux? I think not... :nono:

pretty much everything l've read in the comments to this blog dovetails with what l've read about the development of this white elephant boondoggle. not only have they jettisoned winfs- the whole reason for creating longhorn/vista in the first place- they essentially threw away the code base and restarted midway through development. l think vista will do more to speed adoption of linux than any amount of open-source evangelism ever could have, at least in the enterprise. as far as the consumer market, with apple's recent shift to intel l suspect that vista will end up selling a lot of macs.
terrific, just what we need- more smug self-congratulatory macintard cultists. :( :tsktsk: :nono:  .

Ugh, not Macs. Please, anything but them! :(
Macs are a perfect embodiment of consumerist era 'lifestyle choices'.

The probability of that coming true is somewhere between "haha" and "ahahahaha RP hype bullshit".

And I thought it was all silly before I even considered how absurd that statement was! You're totally right: how could another version of a driver set (which is basically what Direct X is, right?) increase performance that much? Surely that has more to do with megabytes of RAM, processor uber-power and the spanky-newness of your graphics card.
Of which I of course have none. :)
