is it possible to insert images in a post that are in our HD, or does the image have to be somewhere on the internet?

The image must be somewhere on the Internet. Often your ISP gives you a small slice of space to put things on. Check to see if yours does, else search Google to find a free host :)

umm, why can't i see the image?
does the format matter?
what are the size limits?

Format doesn't matter, although it is best to limit to jpg, gif or png. Our forum guidelines ask that the image is no bigger than 640x480 and is less than 100kb in size.
Unfortunatley you have selected a webhost (tripod) that doesn't allow you to hotlink images from their servers. This is a common practice now as it saves the companies a lot of bandwidth.
You could try changing the extenstion from jpg to txt and try that as it sometimes works :)
