The court has likely followed procedure and this other guy has failed to send his admission to the relevant authorities. What would you have them do? Do you want the courts to stop everything as soon as someone (anyone?) says "I dun it guv"? Thank the Lord you're not responsible for anything of import.

Not necessarily true. In some countries you have to PROVE you are innocent, the prosecution need not PROVE you guilty. They merely bring the case. All proof to clear you is on you and your advocate.
