Is there a user-friendly explanation anywhere of the various elements Enchantermon?
I'm not sure what you mean...are you talking about the different parts of the program?

Yes, I did, but no worries. I've finally found the help programme. :)

Thank you but I should have been looking for info myself in the first place rather than being so feeble. :)

Alright, so AVG is today telling me I am infected with trojans after being fine yesterday and after using my credit card to make some online purchases. For a while now I haven't really been happy with AVG and I am ready to start paying for something better. I thought I might ask a couple of questions about Kaspersky since Bikerdude seems to be familiar with it.
What is the activation process like? I am looking at their security version that comes with 3 activations. I do a lot of upgrading and have also had some hardware failures and I am worried that the activations are tied to hardware changes or anything similar. Plus I would like to be able to reformat and reinstall windows without problems not to mention I would want to put a copy on my laptop.
I am also curious to know how the program is for false positives although I am more interested in knowing about the activation process.

Hi Flag
I've been using KAV 2008/2009 (Kaspersky AntiVirus) at home and professionally for the last 2 years, you have 2 options as i see it:-
* if your compentent with your pc or prepared to learn a little KAV will reward you with the best protection bar none.
* if your a mainstream no so technical person that just wants to install and forget but still have good protection then I suggest the latest NAV 2009 (norton AntiVirus)
Regarding what option you choose, if saving money is your thing then always buy OEM (just the CD, no manual or box) copies of the software you want. Its a little more hassle to buy a new CD each year for each of your computers, but its a tad cheaper. For example.... I bought a 2yr 3pc licence of KAV 2008 its cost me £69.99, where as buying OEM would have cost me £42(£7.50x2x3) plus p&p - its a hassle thing, can you be bothered or not to save £15 over 2 yrs.
I will say one thing about kaspersky that may not apply to Norton(going on past knowledge), the 2yr licence I bought entitlies me to upgrade kaspersky within the licence period as well as antivirus updates (I went from 2008 to 2009 etc), where as I think Norton will only allow you to download antivirus updates - you will need to google this.
Regarding false positives, your going to get that with any AV program, but I noticed that KAV is very good in this dept and the ones it does find are explained and I am given options regarding what course of action to take etc.
