Ah yes, who could forget the stirring and triumphant reunion of Cream! That was in 2005, right? :laff:

more like I did your mum three times over
I'm honestly surprised you don't hold a shred of hope for this. I didn't, for the longest time, but I'm honestly seeing a glimmer of the old Indy in what little we've seen (which, admittedly, isn't much). I'm quietly confident that Speilberg still has the ability to knock it out of the park, he may be fairly scatty in his output (moving swiftly from War of the Worlds to Munich, what a fucking contrast in quality) but generally all his films past muster. I was just watching a documentary on him the other night in which he espoused that Indiana Jones movies are among the only ones of his that he can watch and not view it as "that movie I directed". I'm hoping this remains the case for Indy 4.

What tends to be overlooked about the Indiana Jones films is that only Raiders really stands to be called a great film. The other two are so-so adventures that are elevated from formulaic mediocrity by the affection we have for the character. I think it's perfectly okay to expect to be underwhelmed by Indy 4.

Sure, Raiders is the only great movie but both other entries in the Indiana Jones franchise are among the most enjoyable popcorn flicks of their time. I don't doubt Speilberg's ability to do that again.
No one's saying they're fucking masterpieces or anything, but getting even reasonably good efforts in the cinema seems to be an effort for most directors with almost any franchise these days.

Right - even Indy 2 & 3 were still better than most action/adventure fare we see these days. The Island anyone?

I'd, personally, rank Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade as around the same level of Raiders. Temple of Doom isn't that great, though. It's also a prequel...conincidence?

I didn't think it was a prequel so much as a reprise ... it's still later in time.
