Spielberg is fucking schizophrenic. He decides somewhere along the line that kid's movies can't contain anything that implies violence and yet goes and makes a visceral, brutal movie like Munich.

which isn't a kid's movie.
Not defending the edits of ET, they are pretty silly, but I really don't see your point. So he has different standards for violence for both adults and children, what's so weird about that?

Dunno, I'll always prefer Crusade to Doom myself, maybe because it's the one I had the chance to see in the theater when I was a kid. I tried to put myself in the same place last week and I enjoyed Kingdom a lot, though not as much. Still I rate it higher thant Doom, which remains to me the least enjoyable of the four.

I think a better example would be having Mola Ram tear out the still beating heart of a sacrifice in what was ostensibly a PG movie.

My point is a guy who mollycoddles kids from the existence of mere weaponry then bombasts them brutal, gut-wrenching violence when they're a couple of years older is a bit random. I just don't get why you'd want to create some sort of insular fantasy world in that regard, it just seems unnecessary.
And what Morte said, why revise history when you're clearly not completely pacifist.
And it wasn't a point really, just an observation that I think the guy is a bit fucking weird.

Ford said he wouldn't object if fifth film was made, although he wouldn't like if it took 19 more years... IJ and the mystery of missing wheelchair?

Let's do the Indy is old jokes all over again.
Indiana Jones and the Colostomy of Doom.
Wait... let's not.

I liked it. There were a few scenes that definitely went over the top but they weren't enough to ruin the movie for me. I was pleasantly surprised by how well the Mutt character worked out; I was expecting some annoying twerp (see his Transformers role) but I think his role really added a lot to the movie.

Bullshit.
I try not to comment on reviews because hey, to each his own, but this is just grotesque. You must have had pathologically high expectations if you really feel that way about KotCS. I'm not saying it's Oscar-worthy, far from it, and you have every right not to like it, but jesus going that far on the negative scale is just ridiculous.
I think you are right but not for the reason you think. I dont know why but I have gotten a lot less tolerant of crap lately, and I cant for the life of me understand how people can enjoy it so. I clearly have gone off my rocker since so many people here that I consider intellegent (no sarcasm) seem to have enjoyed it. I love cheese and mindless action but I seem to have lost the ability to like something just because it references things I once liked. I think I just need to keep my movie thoughts to myself from now on since apparently I and my friends are the only ones who think like this at this point. Going to go wash it away with some patriot games or clear and present danger, one of which is guarenteed to be on AMC at this very moment (as god intended).

Saw it yesterday and loved it, so bite me, haters: I had fun, you didn't. :)
It certainly missed a lot of the feeling of discovery that the old Indy movies had. Solving cool historical/mythological/linguistic puzzles had been pushed aside by the constant action set-pieces, which I do agree is unfortunate, but nothing can stop my inner child from having the fun it deserves. I remained firmly at the edge of my seat from the get-go, and even enjoyed that particular forest scene that everyone is bitching about - good laughs, there.
The climax could have been something more original.
