Just came back :D
Woohoo :D The beginning was a bit weak with the references to Marcus and Papa Jones looking quite a bit forced imo, but then it was all back to pure fun. Broadbent is a ok substitute to Brody, not that he appears much anyway. LaBeouf is not bad at all as a sidekick and my, as soon as Karen Allen made her appearance the movie was a joyride. The chemistry between her and Ford took me back to the Lost Ark days, and is worth the entry price in itself.
The plot is more extreme than the previous three installments although fantasy has always been part of the Jones universe but the whole movie feels like an old serial brought back to life, which is what I hoped for. It was great.

Since Lucas turns everything he touches to shit nowadays, that pretty much ruins whatever hope I could have for that flick. Which to be honest, wasn't a lot to begin with.
I retract that. :cheeky:

The unfortunate thing is I won't be seeing this til next week.
The fortunate thing is this gives me time to catch the entire trilogy beforehand. :D

I saw it this afternoon and actually enjoyed it. It's not as good as Raiders or Last Crusade, but it easily holds its own with Temple of Doom.
The whole alien thing didn't sit well with me, but at least it it wasn't a surprise.
Apart from her accent, Cate Blanchett was pretty great.
The Ford/Allen bits were really nice and overall I think they did a great job in passing on the torch. If Shia the Beef is going to carry it, hopefully they don't try (and fail) to ape the old movies. Fresh blood in the same veins wouldn't be unwelcome.
His old friend 'Mac' from the war was a pretty useless character overall; they could easily have done away with him. And the whole war hero/spy backstory, come to think of it.
Overall, I had a lot of fun.

The bad guys were kind of boring filler bad guys but over all the movie was wicked fun and everyone should see it unless they're expecting an Oscar worthy film event and not an Indian Jones movie.
Aliens were sort of lol but not really any more than any other Indiana Jones movie's gimmick.
In fact a lot of why this movie works at all is because so many parts of it are just like all the other Indiana Jones movies. Especially the car chases <3

Yes the car chases were ace!

Thumbs up from raph, Starry, and igs. I'm sold on this as a fun summer romp.

but if I said it was shit, would that change your mind?

It wasn't exactly shit, but the entire film I was sitting there thinking "man, I wish I was watching Last Crusade" :(
Jackablade on 23/5/2008 at 16:43
I felt that way at moments, and The Last Crusade is certainly leagues above, but Kingdom is not too bad. Temple of Doom level of film I would say. There was nothing in it that made me pump my fist with a hearty Yeah!, but for brief periods I felt like I was watching an Indiana Jones movie.

That's the problem with any movie sequel unfortunately. It's hard for the film makers to step out from under the shadow of what has come before. From what I've heard, I'll greatly enjoy this movie. I haven't seen any of the Jones movies since The Last Crusade was released, so I won't be going in with any expectations. :)
