Marcus died and Jones Sr. is retired.
Connery is retired yeah, but Jones Sr. the character is explicitly dead.
SubjEff, between Indy 4 and Terminator 4, I'd pick Indy without hesitation, at least the characters are there, am I the only one who really enjoys seeing Allen and Ford together? There's chemistry. Though it wasn't enough to save the film at least that's one of the few things they got just right. T4 has no redeeming features whatsoever.
I saw
Crystal Skull only once but I think I'd like it better now that some time has passed. It's Indiana Jones after all. It was cool to have him back
But a fifth film? Dear God let the franchise die already.

Thing thing is, Ford is still pretty damn good in the role. If he had a decent story, the movie might actually be good.
Btw, this guy does a pretty good Jones impersonation (about 1/2 way through). The part at the end with Vince Vaughn as young Jones is even better.

Indy IV sort of worked until the halfway part when it just became a complete and utter mess of tensionless action, ropey CG, characterless interactions and a climax that was just utterly boring.
The Darabont script wasn't stellar, it had a lot of problems and was about two or three redrafts away from the finished product but by GOD it would've been an Indy movie to behold.
At this stage I would probably trudge along to an Indy 5 but my enthusiasm for the franchise would be a shadow of its former self.

I'm with Scots here. Loved the first half, but the second half completely destroyed my childhood memories and made me a bitter shell of my former self. I sob at least twice daily.
Out of curiosity, where can I find a synopsis of the Darabont script? I want to see what I missed out on.

I had a copy and distributed it back in the day but am having trouble locating that e-mail now.

I've got it sitting on my PC at home so I could send it to ya Renzatic if you can wait a bit!:thumb:

Yeah. I guess I can wait. If I gotta.
I know I'm gonna regret reading it, though. Indy 4 was decent. Not the best by far, but good enough to (just barely) belong in the series. So yeah, it sure as hell could've been alot better. Now that I'm about to see what could've been, I'll probably just get depressed.

Can you flick it to me also, Angel Dust. I seem to have misplaced it.

The cast was good, and the character development (what little there was) was probably the best aspect of the film.
But oh man, that car chase was tedious. And then the ants, and the waterfalls... oh, please.
But just think, Temple of Doom was the weakest of the original three films and had some of the same flaws as Crystal Skull. But they recovered to produce Last Crusade. Maybe they can recover similarly for #5.

I'm not sure how to react to this, but it'll likely be a pretty good movie as long as they can avoid scenes like the whole monkey bit in 4. I wonder how Shia's character is going to be following ancient footprints when he was basically a dropout.
Part of me wishes they'd do Fate of Atlantis with a Ford lookalike. Hell they could do it with Shia and Russians and I'd be happy.
