Good thing I did not listen to the whiners in these forums. The final release is awesome. Reminds me of all the complaints re Thief2 - and T2 was also awesome. I am posting this to urge those that are still unsure to get the final release and decide for yourselves.
A demo may depict gameplay, but with games like DX2 and T2 you cannot get the immersive world effect from a demo - you need the final mission sequence, IMO.
Can't wait to see DX3 !

Stuff like this is always reassuring. I wasn't sure about getting it when the demo came out, but so far most of the player reports has been positive, at least for the most part.

(...snip...) Completely agree!!!!!!!!
I’m enjoying it immensely. I’ve been wanting to pipe up about this, but I’m just too depressed over everyone’s negativity. Plus I’ll probably be accused of kissing up to Harvey Smith. It’s especially depressing in the Ion Storm forums. There’s an intense band-wagon of flaming going on there.
Anyone saying they actually like the game in the Ion Storms forums is accused of receiving back-rubs from
“Chris Crayola” (for those who care,
Chris Carollo, is the lead programmer)
Each to their own – I’ll happily enjoy it by myself.
This is a great game. Here’s why I like it:
Intelligent story, dialogue, and moral decisions. There are a billion games out there that constantly insult your intelligence by lacking these.
To me, this is what Deus Ex is all about.
I remember being emotionally BETRAYED when I realized that UNACTO was corrupt in DX1. There aren’t that many games out there that procure that kind of player involvement and attachment and DX:IW has all these qualities in spades. I love how the story evolves and how you take part in it. I feel attached to the decisions I have to make when playing the character Alex D. I don’t know any other game out there where I’ve actually paused to think about a moral decision and its future implications. This is the only game where I’ve actually FELT BAD for going on assassination missions! I know I’m not alone on this. How many other games do this?
Of course DX:IW is not perfect. Its imperfections, however, do not subtract from what makes it a Deus Ex game. And they certainly don’t make it a BAD game. All in all, I think DX:IW is a GREAT game.
Cheers to the chaps at Ion Storm. :thumb:

I still haven't played it, but the descriptions here make me not likely to buy it unless it's in the bargain bin.
Deus Ex 2 does so many things wrong that:
- Have been perfectly done before, both by Deus Ex and other games
- Have no logical foundation
- Show a thorough lack of understanding of some aspects of the game
- Would make anyone worth their job feel ashamed
There is no reason whatsoever why Deus Ex 2 contains some of the flaws it does: anyone who knows anything about game-design or UI-design would pick out most of the issues that have been repeated over and over, after only 1 minute of play.
I can easily accept that, if you can look past these faults, Deus Ex 2 is a still a wonderful game.
I'm just the kind of person who has a lot of trouble doing that. I don't mind crappy graphics one bit: I do mind horrible user-interaction/controls and flawed rule design. I know I'm not alone in this. Enjoy your Deus Ex 2, 'cos we sure can't (if we really hated the game per se, would we be here spending our time complaining about it? of course not... we want to like Deus Ex 2 as much as you do... but we can't).

"we" ?? you must mean "you". Everyone here speaks only for themselves.
Please don't imply your negative assumptions apply to anyone but yourself !
Cheat yourself out of a great game, what do I care ? I am having a great time, and you haven't even bought the game !

I've only played the first level and the demo, but so far I'm really impressed.
This actually has me really excited about Thief 3 now. I think this engine will really lend itself well to that series. Where Deus Ex reminded me of System Shock 2, DX2 seems to have more of a Thief feel to it. I suppose a lot of that has to do with the incredible lighting and the more minimal interface.
I can see how a lot of Deus Ex fans will be disappointed with the feel of this game, but most of the serious Thief players I know (myself included) really enjoyed the demo. I wish I could put my finger on why exactly that is.

I've just got it and have made it to lower Seattle. So far it's a lot better than what I thought it would have been, considering the demo. The only gripe I got so far is the lack of insta-lethal headshots. Everything else is good, and the story seems much more complex than it was in the original.
