I'm playing this game for the first time and was wondering should I do the main quest first and then do all those guild quests or should I do secondary quests first to bust up my attributes and then continue with the main quest.
I'm currently doing the guild quests in Balmora.

As you may have heard from Caius Cosades, it's probably a good idea to romp around for a while before getting on with the main quest. Of course, the main quest and the other quests aren't mutually exclusive, so you'll probably do a bit of random quests, then a bit of the main quest, then some other quests, maybe explore a bit, then back to quests... It's good to mix them all up. ;)

Well you can really do it however, the main quest can be stopped and started whenver and it is easy when you are level 8 but the first couple of quests are kind of hard if you do them straight away. I never did the main quest untill a couple of years of playing, there is just too much other things to do, the main quest is pretty long and can be boring so just do it as your own pace.

The only advantage that I can see of doing the main quest first is that there are two easter egg guild quests which are only available after the main quest is done.
Mages Guild: When you rise to the level of Grandmaster of the Mages Guild, if Trebonius is still alive, he will give you a quest to kill all the heads of House Telvanni
Morag Tong: You'll get some interesting assassinations, each of which is a fairly important person in the game.
That said, I much prefer to favor the guild quests, but to do them all fairly simultaneously. I will say that if you're the Archcannon of the Temple before you hit the midway point of the main quest, it makes the main quest much easier.

Help me do this quest....thanks..... :)

I know this one!
As soon as you enter the Guild, go down the stairs. Then go down some more. As soon as you get in the 'pit' area in the middle, turn left. Where the alchemist usually resides, on a set of shelves, is the Tanto.
No, the alchemist does not reside on the shelves, it's just a grammatical mistake made by me.
Funny how long the guild remains empty!
