In this hellhole for the summer... - by Thief13x

101 F is just getting warmed up here in the summer. The valleys in Los angeles have weeks in the summer where it doesn't go below 105 f typically and 115 isn't out of the question.
Good luck finding anything to do in Texas, I just avoid it if I can. No offense BA:p

There is PLENTY to do in Texas. No offense. :p People don't realize, it takes time to judge Texas, damnit, its so f'ing big for god sake, can't do it all in one lousy week. So many towns, diversity is the key. You have your deserts, to lush forests, its a country all its own. Town after town, all kinds of flavor, from German towns with the local joints with their own vats of beer, not just tex mex. It may be Texas, doesn't mean its the typical southern way down here either. Nooooo. Of course, you can have that, and more, thats what I like about it. Besides, Texas is doing a hell of a lot better in regards to the economy right now compared to some states.
This weather is just getting warmed up, it has been hotter lately, we shouldn't be having this type of weather, just yet. Wait for July and August, when someone has left the hair dyer on outside, and the heat is oppressive enough to smack you in the face when you walk outside. I've always wanted to fry an egg in a parking lot somewhere. Someday, I will.
1. Deep Ellum - Hip clubs, local bands, good flavor at times.
2. Uptown area - more clubs, restaurants, museum thrown in.
3. Restaurants, whats your poison, any cuisine, any kind you want, or want to try.
4. Jazz under the Stars, downtown by the museum, its free. Listen to some jazz, and chill. Nice time. Also the House of Blues, which is new around here.
5. West End, just more to do and see.
6. Dallas World Aquarium, bit pricey, its beautiful.
Grab the local papers, one being,The Observer, which offers the who, what, when, and where of around here.
7. Dinosaur Valley - down by Glenrose, go get those dinosaur tracks and touch them while you're at it.
8. Scarborough Faire - best there is, loads of fun, too bad it ended today. I'm a regular, great place to meet people, see some shows, grab some food, and have a good time.
What else are you interested in?
Spring and fall have more outdoor activities going on, local faires, etc. Scottish festival is early June, may check that out.

i'm a Dallas native, too, and BA's recommendations are spot on.
i would also throw in the Ft. Worth zoo (skip the Dallas zoo) as well as the modern art museum in Ft. Worth and the Japanese Gardens.
The Nasher sculpture museum in downtown Dallas is pretty cool, too (as you can tell i like art). The DMA (Dallas Museum of Art) is okay... i personally don't think it is anything to write home about.
The Dallas arboretum is a good visit, and there is tons of good food everywhere. Dallas is known for good food.
And i also second the trip to Austin if you can make it. Neat town (if not a little bit overblown these days... damn it is crowded and commercialized relative to what it was 10 - 15 years ago).
And yes if you think it is hot now you ain't seen nuttin yet (unfortunately). By the third week of July you will probably think this is hell on earth weather-wise.

Sundance square in Ft.Worth can be a good time as well. Good Bar-B-Q's. Catch the stockyards sometimes, and the rodeo, I did for the first time two years ago. It was fun, I was surprised what a good time I had. It is such a cowboy thing, but man those guys and gals put on a good show.
Downtown Ft.Worth is nice to walk around, and catch the sites.
The good thing about the DMA as its called. (Dallas Museum of Arts) It brings big name exhibits, which can be great. The last exhibit I caught was the Tiffany exhibit, worth the price to see it.
There is a little area called Bishops Arts District. Tucked quietly into this little neighborhood, I love going down there. Some cool little shops to see, one being a soda/cigar shop. No I don't smoke the cigars. :p Every kind of soda you can imagine, its cool to see so many different kinds. More restaurants to try.
Dallas = Diversity
Oh, for the el cheese mo of it, Medieval Times, Dinna and Tournament!

In the sibling rivalry between the two, Dallas has a lot going for it, but Ft. Worth has the cultural high ground IMO.
(bias? What bias? just because I'm from there?)
I know the Yellow knight at Medieval Times (or at least his predecessor), so if you go, go Yellow.

I'd consider us lucky to have both towns so close together. For those that don't know. Ft. Worth and Dallas are about 30 miles apart.
Tagged on yellow, that is, if you happen to get seated in that area to begin with. You normally don't have a choice in what color to sit in.

I've found that the only thing I can successfully do in Dallas/Ft Worth is get lost in the freaking airport--whose bright idea was it to make two gigantic horseshoes?

A farrier? Nobody mentioned Fantasy Ranch I notice. I stayed at the hotel right across from Six Flags but noooooo everybody wanted to go to a strip club. Then they made fun of me for watching the sports channel above the bar. Yeah Fort Worth is real class.
