In this hellhole for the summer... - by Thief13x

And I'm calling Dallas/Ft Worth a hellhole only because the heat index was 101F today, calm down BA:D
So to pretty much directly copy Digi...anyone have any suggestions as to what to do? It sucks because I'm pretty much living in a hotel right off of the highway between towns and have no transportation. It cost me $15 one way to go to walmart (shutup Starrfall;) ) by taxi...and there's not a gas station for 2 miles accessable only by the highway (so a bicycle won't help).
So...definately up for any suggestions as I am willing to take a taxi into the city (Dallas or Ft Worth) a few times this summer if it's Worth it ;).

1. JFK Museum in Dallas
2. Six Flags. Take some aspirin or something if you ride the Texas Giant. The Superman ride kicks major ass too.
3. Fort Worth, go see the Stock Yards, and get yourself a steak.
4. (
http://www.risckys.com/bbq.asp) Risckys BBQ in Fort Worth. Everything here is good.

Sorry but I just have to point out that down here in Adelaide we had Australia's longest heat wave in any capital city, 19 days of above 35 Celcius (95 Fahrenheit). You actually get over it after a while, its not too bad.

I take it you missed Artfest?
Can't help you much with Dallas, aside from the above I've only just passed through.
TBE's suggestions certainly seemed sound enough. Texas does have a lot to offer though, especially if you can skip the vast wastelands between whatever given attractions.
If you are eventually able:
Find your way to Austin. Simply put, It's one of the greatest cities around. Music, food, and other staples of nightlife abound so you won't have to look hard to find out why. It's always reminded me of New Orleans w/o the skuzz.
Also, San Antonio is nice if only for a day or two. The Alamo followed by an evening stroll along the Riverwalk is a sure bet, especially with a lady friend.

excellent, I keep getting Six Flags recommendations from random people. I rode Superman at the Six Flags in New Jersey and it owned like no other, I will have to give it a try down here too..

maybe the walgreen's cashier's phone number will come in handy!:thumb: (wow there is no end to the redneck accusations is there?) seriously thanks, I've been considering making a special trip to San Antonio while I'm down here.
Keep it coming peeps, I'm going to have some spare cash it looks like.

On the best coast rite-aid is the redneck drug store of choice thank you very much!
Awesome local food and good local bars are always a good bet but obviously TBE is the one to ask about that sort of thing.
Rodeo and/or PBR if there is any. It's fucking Texas, there should be.

Hah! Try a week of 115 after spending 6 years in a place where it never gets above 85.
Stay hydrated: when you're sweating constantly you need more water. Find a way to drink at least 32 oz of water during the work day and you'll probably feel better overall.

Ah, home sweet home.
Things are spread out to say the least.
Going downtown to either city is good ... downtown Ft Worth around Sundance (good places: Flying Saucer, 8.0s, and aforementioned Risky's BBQ) and Dallas around the Warehouse District. I tended to like walking around starting in the early evening, when the sun's down.
Outside of going downtown, I'd say people mostly just go to restaurants, movies, Barnes & Noble (haha, maybe just me & my friends), bowling ... stuff like that, or to the nearest lake to go swimming and skiing.
There are lots of little airfields where you can get flown around the countryside or go parachuting.
A good number of concerts and live music (in the 90s, we even almost had a "scene" with the Pop Poppins, Deep Blue Something, and the Toadies). There's racing (Tx Motor Speedway, or some smaller tracks). Look up if anybody is organizing some sports meet-ups. You might find the nearest high school and go to a weekend football game just to see how insanely crazy about football Texans can be.
There are some vineyards around that host wine parties with live jazz. Paintballing used to be big (not sure now?).
I probably don't have to mention there's bound to be some megaChurch down the street with a million social things going on, but obviously mostly religious people.
There's the zoo and Botanical gardens in Ft Worth.
The museums are surprisingly great too, the Kimball Art museum and the Modern art museum. And there's the opera house in downtown Ft Worth. There's some live theatres like Casa Manana. There's the ever popular Omni theatre with the huge screen, and the planetarium.
Too bad you just missed the Rennaisance faire that ends the last weekend of May.
