I know lots of people were having problems with the latest nvidia drivers including me forcing us to switch to new drivers to play the latest games then back to outdated drivers for thief. I am using v163.71 from Sept..2007. and it works fine. All you have to do is go ionto the settings and select "let 3D application decide" otherwise we get crashes or the infamous black screen. It works for me. I am not sure about the 8000 and up cards though. I am using a GF6800GT.
Ok evidentaly you do not have to use "let 3D app decide". The driver runs thief 2 on my 6800GT using any settings I have tried so far. From what I have herd some of the 8000 and up cards are working to but I cannot confirm that for sure since I do not have one.

I can confirm it. It does too.
Edit: On XP SP2

I selected that I will choose all options, then turned on FSAA and AF and now, in XP on 163.76, i've got no crashes and fine image :)

After you selected let 3 D app decide did you remember to press apply ? Is your Thief 2 patched to v 1.33 ?

I dont know what you are talking about. When you select "Let 3D Application Decide best settings" then apply it anything you choose in advanced settings will do nothing and Thief has no FSAA or AF. Your settings become entirely up to the game..not your nVidia drivers. It is possible that with your unique configuration the game works just like you said but I wasn't as lucky. At least I can play Bioshock and Thief back to back without switching drivers or using 2 video cards.
Edit : Nope...you are right. I tried what you said and Thief worked no matter how I set the drivers in windows. Thanks man :)

Yay. Shock 2 works as well. With the safe_texture_manager added in.
