Also Tom Bombadil and the Old Forest were some of the best parts of the LOTR books, all you people who didn't like them should stick to the newest Tom Clancy
:nono:
Tom Bombadil's Splinter Cell FTW.

What does that 'todays children' mean ?
I wasn't making the argument that kids today shouldn't be encouraged to read, more that it seems silly to questions why any given book "needs" to be made into a film. Movie versions of good books probably get a lot of kids into reading said books. I don't think making movie versions of children's books reduces the readership of those stories, in fact I think the opposite is probably the case.

How horribly pretentious of you.

Perhaps I should have ended that with a ;) instead of a :nono:. In any case it was a joke, I liked the Tom Bombadil parts but eh... different strokes.

Turns out that Jackson might still be able to direct the Hobbit after all.
While it's likely that he won't reach an agreement with New Line, it's very possible that the studio will lose the film rights which will fall back into the hands of Saul Zaentz next year (assuming New Line doesn't rush something out on the quick.)
Zaentz has already claimed that if the rights do go back to him, he'll be partnering with MGM and they WILL be hiring Peter Jackson to direct. He seems pretty adamant about it all, and claims it's only a matter of time.

It will definitely be shot by Peter Jackson. ... Next year The Hobbit rights will fall back to my company. I suppose that Peter will wait because he knows that he will make the best deal with us. And he is fed up with the studios: to get his profit share on the Rings trilogy he had to sue New Line. With us, in contrast, he knows that he will be paid fairly and artistically supported without reservation.
Woo?

Too bad Jackson cleaned himself up a bit, they could have saved money and had HIM play the hobbit.
