Oooohhh....lets see how my compatriot Memo del Toro does. :)
If anyone can do fantasy justice, is this man :D

I was hoping for Jackson, but Del Toro is an inspired choice that actually might result in a better film. Jackson's already knocked Tolkien out of the ballpark, let's get some hungry new blood in there.

What MrDuck and Stitch said. The Devil's Backbone made me sit up and take note of the man a long time ago.
He's only gone from strength to strength since then. A project like The Hobbit would benefit immeasurably from his wit and dark, unique vision.

Only bad thing about this is an even longer wait before Del Toro can get to making At the Mountains of Madness, and/or the just recently being talked about Saturn and the End of Days

Say no more, I'll simply have to go and find it. :thumb:
I've been meaning to watch it, but something or the other always came up. I remember it won Del Toro a ton of awards in Mexico, including one in Cannes. That's pretty amazing for a debut.

I'll humbly reccomend some Mexican directors, old and new, to watch their movies if you're interested :).

I thought Pan's Labyrinth was extrodinary so I am very happy about this desicion.
I wonder which direction he will take the film though as for the most part The Hobbit is written in a slightly lighter, more accessible style than LOTR but still has its moment of darkness.
