Well, this is the last straw. I definitely think I need a more genteel(sp) sport. My latest rugby-related injury two days ago.

http://files.myopera.com/jim91/albums/245379/rugbyinj.jpgIts not a huge wound, but it focking hurtz and I had to get tetnus shots as well. This is not generally the result I get trying to survive a scrum. Usually bruising and cracked bones..Its from cleats I think, but if someone actually raked me with their nails, I'm going to question which sport is girlish.

If they allow spikes in rugby it's even more hardcore than I thought!
Anyways you should look into rowing. It's rad and you will get GIANT MUSCLES and ALL THE GIRLS

and get up constantly at 4am like a FOOL
but yeah, those marks are not tags. there is absolutely no way a boot could make that kind of marking on you - firstly because it doesn't match the layout of either forward or back tags, and secondly because the marks are too narrow and there's no bruising, just welts which are a pretty good indication you got CLAWED

just like those marks you left on my back
wait, does that work... no, wait, fuck
uuuh, yeah

Could easily have been by accident though. But if you can't handle that kind of minor injury then rugby probably isn't for you.

The reason for exaggerated movements in amateur ken-jutsu based arts (like kendo) is for benefit of learning good technique as far as I know. It's the same with any martial art. Watch some amateur aikido, then some higher level stuff. The higher grades appear to move much less because they've honed the techniques on a personal basis to be much more efficient. Circles get smaller... :p
With kendo it's just different techniques. There's a big slash at the head, and a small chop. Usually you'll do the chop if you're going for the head, but the big move can be unexpected and thus an advantage (unless your opponent is awesome at reading subtle changes in stance). Beginners start out with the big move, yes, but they'll generally learn the small and fast one pretty soon after that.
Actual sparring brings up this tendency in people to throw whatever they've learned out the window and just start doing whatever they come up with, which is usually what the big showy moves are about.
PS- I find it hard to believe this was left untouched:

I've been given the position of hooker

It's untouched because there is no joke about it that hasn't been made 1000s of times in the last 50yrs by 14yr old schoolkids. Think of something funny to say. There, you can't.
Scots once ran a mathematics society lol. Now THAT is pretty funny, and you don't even have to make a joke about it for it to be :p

Who's going to post the picture of Wayne Shelford getting his scrotum sewn back up in the middle of the match. Now that's a proper rugby injury.

Which is good cause we have no time to waste - there's arguments over the fencing style of Star Wars to be had!
