I'm in love with this game again.. - by Angel Dust

So on a whim I decided to replay STALKER with Oblivion Lost and I can't believe how much it has improved the experience. Favourite additions so far are the random blow outs and increased A-Life (is that what it's called) but it's the addition of the vehicles that created a magical gaming moment.
I was in Garbage and it was almost night. During the day I had completed a number of Sidrovich's jobs and decided to push on through the night a bit so I could get to his place and collect my payment. I remembered I had a jeep near the entrance to Garbage from Cordon so I made my way to it. I was cruising along and stopped halfway down the road to investigate a stash. I could hear dogs in the distance somewhere but wasn't too worried even though it was now pretty much pitch black. I grabbed the stash contents when suddenly the sky flashed red. SHIT! I lept into my jeep and hurtled off down the road towards that little two story house near where you meet Fox and in my haste almost hit an anomaly in the middle of the road. Swerving to avoid it I succeeded in rolling the jeep, hurting myself quite badly in the process. I staggered out, healed up a little and started running to the house having to take out a couple of dogs along the way. I just mananged to make it time to the house, which was empty, before the blowout hit. Goddamn I love this game!
It is a pity you can't run things over in the cars though and the levels aren't really designed with them in mind. Still I always get around Garbage in my tractor :thumb:
Regarding Oblivion Lost: I've heard there are some balancing issues later on due to overpowered atificats/ammo etc. However there have been so many versions of it, and I'm using the latest I could find (2.2), that I have no idea if those issues where resolved in a later version. I'm still in the early stages so it's not a problem currently but is there any mod that I should be looking to apply over the top of it?
And to close, I must say that STALKER is still a stunning looking game. The lighting is truly phenominal and I've never seen a game that looks as real as STALKER does.

I'm playing with "Oblivion Complete 2009" and it looks stunning. I also tried "Supermod Pack version 2.3 Series" but the texturepack looked awful, maybe i should try Oblivion Lost if it has the same texture pack as Oblivion Complete, because the driveable vehicles are indeed a nice addition..
What i love with Oblivion is how extremely satisfying the combat is, it feels just right..

I've got a mod for Oblivion Lost which balances the superpowered artifacts and, I think the weapons as well (though I didn't use that part, I prefer to balance weapons myself). The new artifacts are still very good but you won't have over 100% bulletproof cap from artifacts alone by the time you've done yantar.
One issue which I've got with OL2.2 at the moment though is that the game crashes every time I return to the bar after doing the yantar lab, which has kind of prohibited me from playing the game again.
Maybe I'll try this Oblivion Complete mod. What have they changed and how do you like it? Is it very similar to Oblivion Lost?

Cheers. :thumb:
Wow. That looks incredible. I've already got a few of the mods in there but this looks like it changes a lot without going too overboard like oblivion lost does, mostly graphical changes and the like. I think I'll get this installed soon.

unfortunately with Supermod Pack version 2.3 Series I get a ton of crashed. I will have to try the complete one.

Supermodpack has _awful_ textures, just look at oversaturated grass and how the trees look, much worse than the original textures.

Nice surprise, it's running quite smoothly on a X1900 (and I'm not even sure if it's a 128 or 256). At least in the opening areas. Some hiccups but no non-playable stuttering.
:D

I just tried that on a clean Stalker installation and the game crashes right after the loading sequence on a new game. :nono:
I guess I'm going back at searching for smaller mods to add on my own instead of getting whole packages.
