I was quite disappointed when SS2 had no way to lean or go prone.
No way to lean? Ehh?

After having played Thief and System Shock, it always bothers me when a game doesn't allow you to lean, especially when it involves stealth.

I'd say the one thing even more annoying than that is when they do give you leaning, but it's utterly useless. Like, they just roll your view left or right by about 5 degrees.

I'd have enjoyed the ability to roll a few degrees rather than none as in bioshock - but that's a different story (and forum).
To graniteoctopus: No, you're not an idiot. I've introduced friends to both Underworld and System Shock and watched them bounce from wall to wall for about the first hour of play. Once you get the hang of the mouse control it ceases to be a problem.

Maybe I'm just an old infantryman at heart, but SS1's controls lent themselves very nicely to my style of play. I preferred to go prone when 'caught out in the open in a firefight, or use the cover of walls, corners, & furniture when I could.
I loved the controls for the same reasons. That and I think you could lean around corners :D. Course maybe I am thinking of SS2, but when your memories get fuzzy it becomes time to relive them.
Guess I got some Shocking to do.;)

I know how you feel. When I first played Bioshock I kept hitting Q and E to peek around corners out of habit. :p It just feels like the functionality should be there.

I actually love the System Shock control scheme to the point of tracking down other games that do it similarly, and I even considered making one myself.
The clunky controls promote a slower pacing and aiming feels a little nicer when separated from your head movement. I can understand why someone would dislike it though.
