Being a SH fan I already have them, but... progressive? SH2 I understand- I once fooled someone into thinking its opening theme was a new Opeth song- but SH1?

Read up on gapless playback. That combined with a score composed of mostly ambient sound effects, makes it not a stretch of the imagination.

Gaming soundtracks?
The Okami soundtrack is gorgeous -- comes in a five-panel digipack with a luxurious box -- and the music, once you sort out all of the ten second filler pieces, is certainly moving. I find you kind of have to make your own playlists, since there's five discs of music, but I guess they just wanted to include everything, which is nice. If you've played the game, prepare to be surprised at how much unique music is in the game. I swear they barely ever use a song more than once.
Katamari Fortissimo Damacy - the soundtrack to the first game, and quite possibly the best gaming soundtrack ever made. I've said it before, but it's about the only one that I'd buy if I'd never played the game. A bizarre mixture of jpop, electronic, jazz, ambient, and weird pseudo-american torch songs, it manages to maintain a consistent theme (literally, the Katamari theme, which is brilliant) while remaining endlessly surprising. God, I could write copy for Amazon.
The sequel soundtrack is also good, but probably more for fans of the first (still brilliant though), and the third in the series is a two-disc set that rounds up the themes from the PSP version as well as a few tracks they couldn't fit in the originals. Fans only, but again, there's some great stuff.

Video Game OSTs? Stuff that you should buy would be:
* Chrono Cross
* Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
* Silent Hill 2 -- if you don't mind ambient/industrial horror mixed in with the rather stunning instrumental tracks.
I see you've already got the Requiem for a Dream OST, which is great but is probably the most depressing music in the world. More film OSTs:
* Star Wars: The Empire Strike Backs. It's an obvious choice, but only if you like John Williams.
* Cowboy Bebop/Cowboy Bebop: Blue. They're really anime OSTs, but bitchin' stuff regardless, lots of big band/jazz, but not confined to just that. Very impressive, overall.
* Edwards Scissorhands OST - Danny Elfman.
* And if you like Elfman, there's the Batman/Batman Returns OSTs as well.
And 'bout The 'Oo: definitely get The Who Sell Out for a taste of the early Who, Quadrophenia, and Tommy if you don't mind some almost-seminal rock opera.
Also, I know you prefer studio albums, but The Who was really in their element live - Live at Leeds, man. You gotta listen to it. It's something else.

Would you reccomend Nick Cave's latest?
Sure. But not over "Murder Ballads", "Let love in" and "Abbatoir Blues/Lyre of Orpheus". However, I dont' really like most of the albums you listed in your original post so don't put too much weight on my recommendations.

I agree with Aja, the Katamari Damacy soundtrack is a must-own. A lot of different styles and they're all fun. Always brings a smile to my face. And I didn't even play the game.
Also, highly recommended is the Final Fantasy concert album 20020220. Brilliant arrangements of many of the Final Fantasy highlights. Shivers down my spine. Expensive to import, but only $10 on iTunes.
A great movie soundtrack that is not very well-known: The Legend of 1900. One of Ennio Morricone's finest.
I also really like the concert album The Wings of A Film, with some of the best pieces of music that Hans Zimmer wrote. If you like Hans Zimmer, I recommend the soundtracks of The Lion King, Gladiator, Hannibal, Black Hawk Down, and Pirates of the Caribbean 2 and 3.

Massive Attack - Mezzanine
Massive Attack - Protection
Massive Attack - Blue Lines
As for Radiohead; The Bends/Iron Lung EP > Okay Computer > In Rainbows > Kid A > Hail to the Thief > Insomniac.
All of their post-Pablo Daddy stuff sd good, but I prefer the more Rock-oriented albums. Some of their most beautiful songs are on Kid A though.

Anime and Japanese Cinema:-
Yoko Kanno is fucking awesome. She's one of the most versatile screen composers that I know of. Her collaborations with the mysterious vocalist Gabriella Robin (whom may or may not be Kanno herself) are absolutely wonderful.
