hi... i actually have a tech problem, but as i couldnt get any help from the offocial forum, i decided to ask here. i played the demo before. but a few days ago, i tried to install the full game to the same pc, but the autorun didnt work. so i said "ok, i can bear that" and installed it manually. but now, when i click on the shortcut or even on the exe file itself, the pointer shows a sandclock, and then the sandclock dissappears, and nothing happens. i can see the arx.exe when i check the processes list from the task manager but when i switch to the applications list its not there. in the official forum and the faqs, a "driver problem" is being mentioned frequently, and yes i m also using nvidia, and i've both tried the latest drivers 52.16 and the medieval version "30.82" that the tech support recommends us nvidea users to instal in order to be able to play the game!
but they all turned out to be useless! i still cant play the game. i tried to install the demo again, but the same thing happens with the demo now. i dont know what my computer got, or lacked when i played the demo months ago, but it's not fair!
is there anyone who experienced the same problem and can give me a proper advice? i want to play arx fatalis, but it keeps ignoring me!:(

Nah, it's not 9.0b that's causing your problem. I just recently reinstalled the game and I fired it up with no quirks or hangups whatsoever.
But first, give us some more info about your comp. Have you tried the latest patch? You have enough ram? yadda yadda yadda...
Kafein on 30/12/2003 at 03:58
ah someone at last!!!! thank uuu!!!
i dont think it is memory related because i've played the demo on this computer some months ago. but i've installed the game recently and it didnt work. then i installed the demo again that i've uninstalled in september (and it was still working) but it doesnt work now. by the way, my pc doesnt have plenty of ram. i m aware of that. but i dont understand why it worked before but doesnt work now. :( i could easily play such heavy games like morrowind, gothic2, system shock2, mismare, neverwinter etc..
i was dreaming for arx since i've played the demo. i finally got it a few weeks ago but i cant play it...

hmm...I'm drawing a blank here, man. There are plenty of potential reasons why Arx isn't working for you, so for right now I'll just run down a generic list of things to check out.
What programs have you installed, or changes have you made to your comp, since you actually got the demo to work? (yeah, this is kind of a broad question..but your problem probably stems from something you've done since then)
What do you have running in your taskbar?
Have you installed anything funky recently that changes any settings in your registry, like a graphics card tweaker?
You defragged recently?
Also, you could grab the Detonator Nasty File Remover (off of (
http://www.guru3d.com) Guru3D) and uninstall every single trace of your old detonator drivers then reinstall the most recent fresh and new. There could be a lingering file from an old driver set that's messing you up.

ah! u must be a prophet!!! thanks a bunch!!!!!!!;)
err...i actually have too many programs installed to my pc. i have dozens of wave editing, sequencing, sound production programs like reason, recycle, acid, sound forge, traktor, reaktor etc and quiet a bunch of graphic softwares. like premiere, image ready, maya, paintshop etc. but i think i've installed most of them before i've played the demo and i dont think they could be the reason. ah but i've recently installed the reason 2.5. i'm not good at computer systems but reason is a heavy software and it can effect the sound card in anyway. i dont know... and f course there are some games i've recently installed (like BG2, silent hill2, mistmare) but i dont think they can be the reason eiter. but one thing, i have some video codecs recently installed for media player. like ffdshow. maybe they can be related to the problem. ? what else...:erm: erm...
apart from those, i've only changed the dx, and display and detonator drivers.
no i havent defragged, i dont even know what a tweaker is, and nothing runs in my taskbar except norton.
now...one thing: that Detonator R.I.P looks really useful. what i thought about the problems was that it is still something about the drivers... i've installed and uninstalled some drivers to make the game work, and it got worse... all the files could be mixed to each other... i tried to clean them as it was explained in the official forum but as u can see, my knowledge about computers is limited. one of my closest friends who is a computer engineer takes care of my pc but he cant have a look at it because he is very busy since i've got the game... and he also doesnt know much about the game and how problemous it is. maybe i should tell him on the phone all those things u said because he knows my pc better then me... because i only use it for music and graphic production and of course gaming:)
so, i will use that R.I.P. software to clean my computer and reinstall the drivers. because as u know, the game has problems with the 40.xx series of those drivers, and i'm sure those versions still has traces left somewhere around in my system... they must be the reason.
thanks a hundred times again and again!!! i really owe u !
hopefully it will work and i will report the results back here:thumb:

Also...if you haven't gotten it to work already...have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game? You probably have, but it's best to check these things.
Kafein on 5/1/2004 at 01:00
i have uninstalled the game and all my drivers, used the detonator RIP and cleaned all the nvidia traces, then installed the display drivers 52.16 and nforce driver 3.13... then i installed the game (but the autorun didnt work again, so i had to do it manually like the first time) then, i clicked on the exe file, NOTHING happened. it was still the same! i did all those things but it still doesnt work! then i did uninstalled all the drivers and tried it with the drivers 30.82, but nothing has changed. so i m hopeless...
i've even tried a cracked "no cd" exe file with the latest patch installed, but a-ah!
i think i will reinstall windows...:( but it sounds like a nightmare, because i have hundreds of softwares installed, and most of them wont work... and i'll haveto reinstall most of them... it is very bad!
:(
thanx anyway...
