Ignorance of the law is no excuse. So the law says. I forgot armed robbery was illegal. So Steve Martin said. Somewhere in the middle is sanity. I'm afraid I would have hung the jury on this one.
I'm prejudiced though. I found a nickle 38 alongside the road, picked it up with a pencil in the barrel and laid it on a newspaper, took it to the Holysprings police dept. where I set it on the counter still wrapped and told them the exit and how far from the yield sign it was. As I was speculating on why a gun would be tossed from a window the officer unwrapped it and put his bare hands all over it. At least I wasn't arrested.

I was being sarcastic, at the expense of posters who loudly wail about how ignorant everyone else is. After all, everything bad that happens to other people is a result of how ignorant they are compared to your gloriously enlightened intellect, right?
My apologies for digging into you, but given your history with RBJ, I don't believe that he thinks BAD THINGS (Except karmatically. You know. The "Eat shit and die" way.), should happen to you on the basis of your ignorance and his gloriously enlightened intellect. I could be wrong, here. There's certainly other people who think that stupidity is sufficient grounds for imprisonment.

A lot of people who study law seem to forget that it isn't just about whether a law is on the books, but whether that law
should be on the books(or enforced the way it is).
I think that in the footbal thread, he made it clear that the law is not something he agrees with - but rather that it is well within the bounds of the commerce clause.

@ Tocky: There is a bit of attitudinal objection I have to the whole thing, though. It isn't always practical for citizens to wait for a government response to everything that comes up. A citizen demonstrating individual initiative in trying to help the police should be rewarded, not punished with jail time.
Then again, I'm a bit biased because I prefer not to rely on others if I can help it. Definitely not when it comes to law enforcement: Waiting ten minutes for cops to show up during an Armed Robbery (for example) isn't particularly bright, especially when I have the skills necessary to defend myself.

I'd return it.
Probably anonymously.
But definitively return it.

You could bury it somewhere else.

I think CCC was being sarcastic.
That or he needs to set himself on fire, right now, for the good of humanity.

I feel sorry for him getting dicked by the letter of the law but he kind of is the dumbest guy alive for a) disturbing something probably used in a crime and b) PULLING A GUN OUT IN A POLICE STATION.
Well to be fair it
was in a bag. Kinda hard to find out that it was a gun without "disturbing" it. Of course he could've put it back after he found out what it was but that would probablly have felt sorta dishonest. As for "PULLING A GUN OUT IN A POLICE STATION" you make it sound like he was waving it around like a madman instead of just showing it to them, which is what he was there to do. Can't say I would've done things any differently than he did.

Just on the bizarre and stupid nature of the city of London specifically; I'm always amused by the posters up around my subway station; favourite sofar is:
"Warning - the floor may be wet from the rain, you may slip on it so be careful!"
Duuuur.
On topic - if I found a gun, I would recreate my favourite scenes from GTA in the spirit of scientific research on whether playing games makes us all violent killers.
