Audigy 4 working fine. I believe it worked okay for me when I was using Audigy 2 too.

Auzen X-Fi Prelude. The sound is perfect for T1/2/SS2.
Creative make cards of questionable quality, ie using cheap components for their supposed premium cards like the X-Fi Fatality and Elite Pro. Don't waste your money on one of theirs, the only genuinely good X-Fi is the third party one by Auzen.

I've been using Creative cards for more than 10 years, starting with the "soundblaster" series. I've never had a problem with one of them. I have had problems with nearly any other I tried.

Running a card and what it's built from are two entirely separate things.

True. But you say all Creative (by the tenor of your post, all makes of cards), are suspect and that your choice is the only quality card.
I say have your opinion. But my post and others refute your claim that your choice is the best.
And I would like to see a qualifed report that backs your claim that Creative uses sub-standard parts.
Your say so is just smoke and mirrors in my opinion. And my opinion is never humble. It's mine and a good as any of yours.
Opinions are like assholes. Everybody has one.

No, he's right about Auzen using better quality parts than Creative.
It's not an opinion, it's fact. Auzentech has better build quality and parts leading to less noise and better signal quality, therefore cleaner sound.
theBlackman on 24/10/2008 at 02:59
True Auzentech has a good card. But regardless, that doesn't mean that Creative uses "bad" components.
To quote: "The CMI-8788 is the most advanced consumer chip of its kind outside of Creative Labs. Auzentech has taken this chip..."
Note the emphasis. Auzentech has a good rep. But according to this Creative is not using or reputed to use inferior goods in its products.
So, your "opinion" about the lack of quality is just that. An opinion.

Sorry, I should've been more specific. I mostly meant their premium cards, the quality of the build doesn't reflect the price that's being charged. The cheap true X-Fi's (eg XtremeGamer and its predecessor the XtremeMusic) are nice cards and hugely better than onboard solutions.
What's truly shit though is their lowest end budget cards. X-Fi XtremeAudio, Audigy LE, Live 24bit... they're all the same card, simply rebadged. The X-Fi XtremeAudio is a super scam, it lacks the X-Fi processor and does everything in software. You may as well be using onboard.
Their software practices are known to be dishonest. Eg deliberately crippling the Vista drivers of their legacy cards like the Audigy; charging a premium for the Audigy version of ALchemy. Read up on the Daniel_K fiasco for the details.
