If System Shock 1 or System Shock 2 were re-made, what would you like to see? - by HitoshuraEA

Well not to change it radically, but a bit of the tension in the moment is lost when you have maddening techno in the background. In change I mean going more towards the route that system shock 2 used. Though the type of Orchestration that BioShock seems to be using, I believe, would fit perfectly into a newly designed System Shock

Stable multiplayer.
Fvck multiplayer.

You`ll find that good stable and fun multiplayer adds alot to a games life. Especially if it has really good co-op.
And for some things I`d like to see if SS2 were remade: Higher poly models, ability to drop items in containers, being able to lock doors via hacking, being able to take control of robots, and lastly being able to pickup and drop bodies like in Thief/Deus Ex.
Having some good multiplayer maps would be great as well. Oh and a easier level making program. Learning how to make levels in dromed was alot like learning programing. Took ALOT of time and practice lol.

If the game had an Ops deck that wasn't so horrible I'd have a hard time finding flaws in the game.
The atmosphere added nothing new that the three previous decks did not already do... in fact, it hardly had atmosphere at all minus your common scares and such. Everything you see had pretty much been done before in the game at some point or another.
Worse yet are the enemies within that level, which just downright suck. Ultra-fast armor-wearing dart-throwing ninjas that spawn en masse in the main buffer room are simply an annoyance to kill. There's the monkeys which I never really liked anyways, but then they make them shoot fireballs just to make it a little bit worse. Finally, among the worst in all of gaming's history are the giant spiders. For one thing, the animations on them are pitiful. They hardly move their legs when chasing after you and their attack animation NEVER lines up with their attack. Of course, they're ammunition hogs just like everything else annoying in the game, so a cheap person like me has to melee all five thousand of them to death, which wears on patience as well as your quick-load keys.
Every time I play the game I stock up on as many cyber modules as possible, just to blow them all on agility so I can run out of that horrible level as quickly as possible. But aside from that, it's pretty much a flawless game.
EDIT: Since that didn't really answer the question, what I would like to see in System Shock 2 is the giant spiders replaced with the cute baby ones and a higher hybrid to assassin ratio. on the Ops deck. Everything else is trivial.

I really liked the Ops deck. Plus it showed that not every person who joined the Many was completely on their side. That Hacker guy for example had his own side interests going on dispite joining them. Guess he didn`t want to give up his individuality.

Well, noone seems to be really answering the actual question...
So, here is my take. First, the idiots at EA need to actually put their heart into the project. Assuming they are capable of actually doing this, the one thing that SS1 & 2 are both missing is character interaction. Finding survivors and being able to interact with them should be a substantial part of a remake. That alone, would open up numerous possibilities.
In addition, destructable environments would open up a lot of possibilities, as well. For example, a rumbler chasing you through a wall would add a substantial amount of fear.
Another thing that would add to the game is a non-linear game progression. For instance, imagine if you could find a zero G space suit, break a hole through a window, and go out into space. Now, Imagine if you could skip over parts by using this gameplay and entering a new area from outside. For instance, hacking into an airlock from outside could allow you to get in. The consequence, is that now the area you busted out through is a vaccuum and the ships systems will seal off the area. This is just one example of something that could be added to allow for non-linear play.
In general, what I am saying is make the game more life-life, thus, magnifying the horror of the situation. These are just some ideas that EA should consider if they ever come to their senses and do a remake (or a sequel).

I would really like to see the ability to form alliances.
Especially in SS2.
Imagine if you could join the Many and stop the meddling SHODAN/humans. You could even get SHODAN to pull another grunt out the fridge for you to duel with! Of course you could side with SHODAN and create a new technologial future for a modified mankind.
Joining the humans gives you the classic ending.
Each could have it's own skills/stats and upgrade.
That would be COOL!!!

Right. I can just see that up on the big milestone whiteboard-- "PUT HEART INTO PROJECT".

Following right after: "Tear hearts from the living."
HitoshuraEA on 28/3/2007 at 21:01
Tear the hearts from the living? Hmmm sounds about right.
But character interaction is definately an area that needs to be worked on. Some even toyed with the idea that as opposed to audio logs, each log you find would project an image of the person speaking ala Star Wars holograms. At the same time I believe the main character needs to be defined more as an individual person...
