I think some people may have been confused as to what a lot of the grates were for throughout the levels.
They normally appear on the walls, but in the cavern there is a big metal structure with howling wind coming out of a hole.
These are all ventialtion shafts to the cold, dark outside so all the inhabitants can breathe! I thought that this was a really nice, authentic touch! Glad to see little details like this arent overlooked!
