It was mainly regarding the idea of paying FM authors for their work, as an incentive. I know it was brought up before on the forum, and people freaked over copyright risks
I don't think there's an issue in paying fan mission authors, sure they might not be able to sell the actual missions on gumroad or whatever, but you could set up a Patreon account and get donations. Skyrim modders do that, you think you can't?

That's a sticky conversation that has caused some problems with members in this group a time or two over the years. Probably best to avoid the idea.

I'm merely stating a fact that being compensated as a modder (in this case a fan mission author) is not illegal, if games like Skyrim or The Sims can have those, even funnier, the biggest modders are known for making sex mods, which is not brand friendly at all. You can argue whether it's ethical to expect money in return for something people make for free (I think donations are fine), but factually speaking it's not illegal. And it's not even taking into the account that Thief as a brand is completely abandoned at this point, if we're talking about the original games.

Honestly this is how I see any happening, is if some random relatively dedicated fan did it on a whim; what I'm saying is basically, it's random that someone could do it and complete it. Though personally that would be kinda cool if someone did finish the thief 2 gold missions cuz some of them sound really cool!

I don't think anyone that makes fan missions has money in mind when they release them. That being said, some FM authors have had careers in the video game industry based on some of the free work they've done making and releasing FM's. I think the best route would be to make some great FM's and get noticed. Then go make some games for a paycheck and keep Thief FM's and DROMED where they belong: in a hellish pit of agony, despair and unsnapped grid problems.

every faction in thief series are turning in there graves with this topic, don't have brother muras come back from the dead once again to put us on some fetch quest as punishment for this blasphemous conversation
i can hear the faint sounds of brother muras now saying thief reboot is not thief 4, if you want to have me rest in peace you must have a correct thief 4 made, where you have to go back in time to the kathra-din era and retrieve some items that can fix the glyphs, then come back to current time and have the hag preform the spell the woodsie lord fail in completing, and yes you must have dewdrop the entire time for any of this to work/etc.
