Maybe so but we probably wouldn't be here in this forum today without T2. We'd still be here without the additional attempts though.

Thief 5ive needs to really shake up the series formula. So it should be set in the far future, where the great-great-great-grandchild of Garret and Zaya, David Plissken, is pulled out of retirement to infiltrate a shadowy terrorist cell that uses autonomous mobile weapons platforms to spread fear and chaos to destabilise the government of Alaska.
David's arsenal includes the famous NERF, which when aimed correctly at a light source, uses hydrodynamics and capillary action to jet a stream of electrically conductive material that soaks in and shorts it out, the stun rod, a close range weapon which he packs in his pants and works on any enemy type except robots, and a collection of defective aibos, which are used as both bait and to run interference by forcing enemies to walk up to them and pat them on the head on sight, at which point they explode.
As it turns out, the mastermind of the terrorist operation is a child clone of David who has taken on the moniker of Gaseous Mamba, and he commands a robot army that exerts his will upon vulnerable nations because of an inferiority complex from genetic defects in the cloning process that give him a voice like Scrappy Doo. David finishes Mamba off by escaping a trap that was intended to reduce his body into a pile of genetic mush, then forcing him into the CRISPR vat and running the sequence backwards, destroying the entire base as Mamba's body turns into an explosive pile of self-replicating biomass that consumes the island.

If I was an FM author, I'd have made that into a campaign long ago. I think there was a proposal to create it collaboratively, but it never took off (they used one of the only surviving T2G maps but created a different mission with it).
Ultimately, most FM authors have their own ideas, so it will probably never happen, unless the community commissioned it and paid the authors (which is unfeasible and might have serious copyright implications)

If Copyright were an issue, I'd imagine that all FMs would have to pay royalties, seeing as the building blocks of any mission are taken from the original game.
It's a shame really, if I were any good with DromEd, etc. I'd have a go myself. It's a project that I'm sure our dearly departed Lady Rowena would have relished.

It was mainly regarding the idea of paying FM authors for their work, as an incentive. I know it was brought up before on the forum, and people freaked over copyright risks

My comment was mostly a joke. But yeah, it would take a miracle to finish that project at this point, and it wouldn't really fit in all that well because of all the years that have passed and that original wave of creativity with everyone on the same page has long passed. It's a cool idea though.
