I posted this idea in the 'work-in-progress' thread, but realized there are probably many who don't go there, so my apologies if someone happens to see both and thinks I'm excessively advertising this (I'll delete the original post if need be!). Here's my proposal:
What would you guys say to a centralized place for Thief 3 screenshots? Maybe it's just my laziness, but I thought it'd be neat to browse through photos by author and have them right at my fingertips. Plus, there would be no worries about image hosting, as it'd be in one place. I was first looking at MSN Groups, but then found (
http://www.myphotoalbum.com) MyPhotoAlbum which allows unlimited photos and probably would look nicer. Plus, I can supposedly "create [my] own members" to allow access to uploading more screens. I'm sure you've all held back on the eye candy because you are too modest ( :tsktsk: ), and this would encourage everyone to open up more, offer inspiration to fellow FleshEd'ers, and an easier way to leech for those of us hungry for FMs.
I do understand that the discussion and explanation is an important part of it, but I'm also thinking of taffers who have no desire or inclination to mod themselves and because of that, might never peruse the Thief III Editors' Guild (but nonetheless be hungry for shots of future releases). My thought was that I'd harvest all the pictures in the 'work in progress' thread so far (with everyone's permission), put them in folders named by screenname of author, and then create members of anyone who wanted to continue updating the community by uploading new screenshots there.
Modders: yay or nay? I don't know if photos can be remote loaded, but the upside is, again, having everything centralized, and being able to give one simple url (i.e., (
http://thief3screens.myphotoalbum.com)). Thoughts on this, even if you think it's stupid, are welcome and suggested.
Cheers,
deadman.

I wouldn't mind, and it'd be a good place to point people to when they ask how the FMs are coming. I remember that at one point someone set up something similar for Morrowind screenshots that was quite handy.

I had this idea too but never said anything. Mainly because Ive given Webshots.com $45 dollars a year for unlimited photo uploads and never even used it  (Well not this year anyway).
Mainly didn't offer because webshots wont allow direct linking to the images.
Like this

**Waits for Jason to say Thiefmissions.com/hosting :sly:

Remember there is nothing to stop the wiki being used for this. Any author can create a page and give it a category like [wiki]CategoryAuthor[/wiki] - then the category page lists all authors who have something to show or say.
It isn't going to be anything like a gallery of course, but authors can offer a bit of commentary on what they are doing.
It might be an idea to turn the comments functionality on selectively if anyone is interested in asking questions related to a specific author's work.
I've created the category and put in a page for myself, just to show the idea.

Thanks for the suggestion/info,
scumble. I hear where you're coming from; commentary and info is very important for the learning process (especially with this new editor), but as I noted above, a lot of this would be for FM players as well, who have little or no interest in pursuing modding themselves and could even be scared away by such discussion that's out of their realm. I still haven't created an account, so I don't know about the remoteloading thing (probably not), but still (again, something I said above), it would be easy to simply link to the main album, and perhaps even the specific author's screens (EDIT: This is how it works, from a sample album: (
http://sample1.myphotoalbum.com/view_album.php?set_albumName=infant) http://sample1.myphotoalbum.com/view_album.php?set_albumName=infant). You could say this would specifically make it easier for someone just looking for screens of works-in-progress, whether they're only players or authors who don't want to dive through threads and pages for it.
Having it all centralized offers some benefits, and as well, no one would have to worry about individual photo accounts themselves at various hosts (or even those which doesn't require registration). Again, a lot of it is for ease of use and the thought of browsing through albums by author name, providing a place for those who might not visit the editors' guild at all to see what's going on (that might encouage more to come here, as a result), and as I can create my own members, I could try just creating a general login and seeing if you taffers can be trusted (:p). Many things can happen to personal webspace and such, but if it's at a central place like this (which hopefully isn't going anywhere and is reliable enough), those headaches of going through old threads and finding broken links to images or files (because they no longer exist) shouldn't be an issue. Yeah, I know, I for one am 'superficial' in that I want to feast my greedy eyes on beautiful Thief 3 screens quickly and easily, but I know I'm not the only one :p
Vlad: yeah, I know what you're saying.. The remoteloading aspect is definitely a drawback if myphotoalbum doesn't allow it, but again, there are benefits to this idea, especially if, as I said above, subfolders can be linked to directly (or even images, even if they can't be remoteloaded), and if not, I hope enough authors still think this is a good enough idea to support it.
I can see that image, btw :sly:

working on it - new site for T3/T3Ed coming soon, complete with screenies for existing and upcoming missions :D

Really? What about authors uploading pics as they get them? I'd just let you do your thing and say this completely supersedes my idea, though I still think it would, in a way, encourage more screens if they can directly upload to a central place.

Yes, authors could upload as they want, I don't have to do it myself once it's set up. At least a couple weeks away though
