On a more negative note regarding id and rage:

Considering id have always been rather fan friendly, you get the impression that zenimax is adding their influence here. Even if that's not the case, that's probably more sad when you compare it to the days of shareware.
For the bonus content (which people in the comments seem to reckon only affects consoles - i'm guessing because you won't be able to resell it anyway on pc), it actually seems quite an interesting part of the game you'd be missing out on - secretive and exploratory. For example, in deus ex, finding out about the sewers for the first time and being amazed that they bothered to add all that and the player could easily have no clue it was there, that was impressive.
I think the biggest problem with downloadable content and this crackdown on the used market will be in years to come. You won't be able to get these games anymore - or even if you can, you'll be screwed when it comes to downloadable content - particularly on console, the servers will be off.
For example, i think i remember hearing something about their being dlc on the original xbox but i can't remember what it was - does anyone know? And of course the servers are long gone for that.
It's another problem with games' multiplayer content too - on a console, the servers are long gone. If there was some way that the community themselves could host servers or play peer to peer then interesting multiplayer games could still be played. For example, metal gear solid 3 looks like it might be interesting for a while but good luck with that.
This suits publishers of course, because no doubt, you should be moving onto the next latest game to consume, rather than spending your time looking for old interesting titles that you missed out on. Bit worrying really.

Battlefield 3 for consoles will need an "online pass", so essentially second owners will miss out on MP functionality if they don't buy a new key from EA.
Hmmmm, at least via this whole "locked away content" deal let's there be a second hand market, unlike used sales for modern PC games which are pretty much non-existent now. Oh joy, this CD key is forever associated with my account, it's the installation disc is more or less a coaster now. (I personally don't sell my games, but the point still stands.)
