I wrote stuff... - by rachel

For a multitude of reasons, this summer of 2019 was a pretty intense one for me, and one of the things I did to try and cope with it was getting back to writing. I set to write at least one micro-story or poem every single day, based on a one-word prompt posted on Twitter by #vss365. I called them my “ink therapy”.
Here are a few; I hope you like these little children of mine. Some are silly, some are grotesque, some chew the scenery with dramatic gusto... It was a lot of fun and it helped me get back on my feet.
And that’s pretty swell, if you ask me.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll go finish editing

I did, thank you. The first flock one strikes a bit of a chord. We get swallows coming most years to nest (3 lots of eggs this year) and we're now waiting for them to start gathering on the wires ready to fly off 6000 miles away to South Africa. Could be this month or next but once they're gone, it's winter. And then we wait till Spring and wonder whether they will return or not.

Thanks nickie, I'm glad it resonated with you :)

I read the first half of the collection. I enjoyed a lot of the imagery and the shorthand of mythological references. I did find the inclusion of the "prompt" words, in red, to be distracting. I felt it obliged me to give them unnatural emphasis, both in the delivery of the words (even when read silently) and of their role in the poem. At times their inclusion seemed forced or contrived. This was why I stopped part way.
Perhaps they would be better as titles or subtitles, attached to the end of each piece. I think the poems would read better in monochrome.
But don't let anyone's opinions stop you from writing more.

Thanks Nicker, I'm happy you liked the ones you read :)
About the highlights... Yeah I wondered about leaving that in. That's kinda the way they were posted originally (with hashtag instead of color code) so I left it in the end. My reasoning was, each entry is in fact pretty much built around its prompt, so...
I'm not against revising that approach though, I'll think about it. Thanks for the feedback!
