I want to believe, that I, an mp3 whore can acquire the taste for the purchasing of albums.
For many years I have always had a taste for music on a song-to-song basis. Never by band/artist/genre/etc, so I always found it a bit hard to trick myself into buying an album in which I like the -one- song only. Not really enough incentive to buy the whole shebang.
But as I grew older and wiser (or just older), I began to appreciate entire albums. Began to ponder titles that I'd surely buy, but halted as the names formed in my head. Surely, if I am to buy the one album, why not all albums that I have actually enjoyed to bits?, but the real kicker, the -REAL- doozy of a pondering came to me..."how can I?, a musical ignoramus, save for what I like, can embark on the process of acquiring new music when I'm still giving baby steps on musical knowledge, and seeing how vast and scary the world of music be, not to mention too fscking confusing."
Yet recently I came again to the mp3 for my salvation. Seeing how I can download songs and entire albums, sample'em and then decide to purchase or not. Still...I am a man that first listens to the noise of the song, before the words. I commit the sin of, most of the time, but not always, listening to the song, but not hearing what is being (the lyrics) said. And I'd like to change this nasty habit. I've been touched by very few songs that I have actually taken the time and patience to listen and understand the lyrics. Mind you that I've ben touched also by music that has no words, just lovely lovely instruments or even mere voices.
I have listened and sample to stuff that has been reccomended here, taken into consideration the musical experts and musicians in TTLG, and I'd like to say in your favor, that I have not been left down. So, my calling for aid to the community of musicians, musical experts and people that generally -love- their music, I'd like for you to point me to the must-buys (so I can sample'em and decide, of course). Give me names, names, names (albums, artists, bands, etc). So I can taste them, savor them, love them or repulse them, but give me names. Point me towards a direction so I can spread my wings slowly, but surely, that I may take flight on my own, entirely.
Right now, I do have a small, but sure, list of albums I will buy, if I embark on doing so. I want your help to help me embark on the grander quest of discovery. Just point the way. Old, new, different, bring it on.
:)
Note: Don't tell me what's shit. Just tell me what's good to you. I'll decide, in the end, what I like or don't. I'm sure I'll end up liking more stuff than not, I have faith in you guys.
