Actually you will be relieved to know DX2 will not be like this. Depending on player choices, JC will end up being a friend or foe from the player's perspective. So it seems you can chose which side to play for.

I'm looking at the PCGamer article right now, and I don't see where it says anything like that...

Are you talking to me? You must be talking to me, coz there is no one else here...

Gamespot: So, even if we won't be able to play as J.C. Denton or his brother, Paul, can you discuss what sort of part they'll play in DX2? Can you name some of the other characters from Deus Ex who will return? What will their roles be?
Harvey Smith: Both play significant roles. J.C. will end up as a mentor or as an adversary, depending on how you play. Tracer Tong is back to lecture you some more. And you get to see Nicolette DuClare, all grown up.

No, I was replying to Huckeye's first message. Sorry if I didn't make that clear, I suppose I should've quoted him.
I did read that article before, but I just now noticed that Gamespy has it set as "Free For Now" - They'll probably require a membership to view it soon. I think I'll copy it to my hard drive...

From the gamespot article:
Harvey Smith : "Alex was about five years old during the events of the first game and was primarily raised in Chicago"
Complete bollocks, of course. Unless A51 is now in chicago and 5 year olds are man-sized.
Anyway, the denton/page/simons clones aren't "raised", that's why they have incept dates and assumed birth dates. they do it blade runner style, implanted memories.
If they are taking this revisionist view of the game story then they are doing what i feared, making a Highlander style sequel.

Oooooh. I dont wanna go up against the JC I created in the original as an enemy......this is the guy who single handedly killed every living thing in France, who took on about 30 UNATCO troopers in the Ton lobby, and wiped out Versalife in Hong Kong.
I'll have to play real nice.....
Huckeye on 18/6/2002 at 00:12
Yes, I reread the artilce as well and it is not there. I don't know what I read that made me think that. Anyway, I am sure that I will enjoy it either way. If I can find whatever I read that gave me that impression, I will put it here.

Maybe Page and Simons will return in DE2, if they had clones growing in Area 51....

Thats a good one. Though if simons isn't in it, I'd be dissapointed. His voice was the best. It wouldn't be Simons, per se. BUT at least someone like simons, with the same voice. creepy, and cool.
King Ronald on 30/6/2002 at 12:29
Maybe in future Deus Ex games, you'll be able to customise your characters voice to your own specifications, not just a male/female = deep voice/high voice option.
