I think I've discovered why SS2 has always been so hard for me - by charlestheoaf

I've always thought System Shock 2 was extremely hard. I could never even imagine going through it on hard or impossible as so many people say they have.
Then, when playing the other day, and looking through my inventory, I realized why it has always been so hard for me -- I am a packrat.
I have never used a medkit in all my runs through SS2, and I've only used maybe five of the annelid healing organs total. I also rarely use the med hypos. I only allow myself to use them after important encounters or if I've picked up about 5 since the last time I've used one. And even then I can barely stand to use it. Even if I have 40 of them.
Because of this, I usually end up running around with under 50% health, too.
I've also never used one of the respawning machines.
So, if I stop so needlessly stockpiling everything (and stop refusing to use the respawns), I should have a much easier time now. I might actually not get so stressed out that I can't bear to finish it. :D
I'm just such a packrat in videogames, and SS2 really brings it out in me.

My packrat tendencies are all the result of playing the original System Shock so many times. Why use the Skorpion to kill an enemy in one second when you can also kill him in thirty seconds by shooting him fifty times with the Pistol?

dartgun (without tranqizler darts) > pistol :p

Sure... particularly against robots... :p
(I do, however, use the Dart Gun with tranquilizer darts against mutants, killing them by overdose)

I find SS2 very easy on Impossible and I never use healing inventory objects until I reach BotM, and that is on melee-only runs. (never fire a gun from start to finish)

Im a total packrat as well. Hoard that ammo!
Same goes for the way I play Deus Ex as well...

I hoard the ammo just to get some cash when using the recycler. :p

What, you mean you refuse to turn them on?
That's no deep psychological mystery. That's just dumb.

I turn them on just in case, but I barely ever use them, 10 nanites is way too expensive. :p

On my last Hard run, I approached the Brain room with over 100 med hypos and I don't even know how many medkits. Needless to say, since I was using guns, it was rediculously easy to survive; I sniped the stars and brain from the "staircase" and then just held the med hypo hotkey down as I rushed the hole.
