i stand before you accused of... MURDER! - by Astral

i just started another playthrough of dx, with the goal of not killing a single entity i can get away with not killing. i don't care so much about animals since even a knockout registers as a kill, and the unavoidable deaths (like mibs or the like) i will cross when i come to. anyway, my problem is this:
after coming back from the first nyc mission (castle clinton / nsf generator) the game took on the tone of me being a ruthless murderer. i triggered the "anna navarre likes your style" dialogue, and sam carter refused to give me the extra ammunition. yes, i admit, i did clean the place out, but thus far not a single human life has been lost to me or indirectly caused by me.
does this have any outcome on the rest of the plot or shall i reload and NOT knock everyone out? :cheeky:

Don't worry about it, so you lose a lousy 7.62 magazine. Since you aren't killing anyone, you wont need it anyway. There is no permanent effect on the game, to my knowledge. Sam Carter will say what he will next time you come back to UNATCO HQ depending on
what decision you make regarding Juan Lebedev
Also, the only death that is unavoidable in DX is
the death of Anna Navarre
, and even that death can be avoided by exploiting the AI. MIB's can be knocked out the same way as everybody else....

I think the castle clinton response from Manderley is as a result of how you enter the site. If you go through the front door, it assumes "it was a bloodbath" whereas if you use any other entrance, such as the docks entrance behind the crates it assumes you were doing the stealth approach, even if you butcher everyone.
As for the Navarre death, I have read reports of people avoiding her, and others, such as Simons with the invisible aug.

Indeed it's been reported several times that Anna can be avoided. Or rather, harmed so badly she flees and opens the door. You can do it with a grenade, but from what I heard, expect several reloads before success.
The only KO required is this guy in the silo, but you can tranq-dart him, so that technically he's not dead

And the best thing in not killing Anna is that the game developers really made such an option possible. If you do not kill Anna, it has a small change to the game on the cathedral level, where you meet Gunther.

They may have had that as an earlier option, and then decided they wanted to take it out later, however ...
Just playing Devil's Advocate.

Does it just change what Gunther says to JC? I didn't know it was possible to not kill Anna (personally I always off her in Lebedev's plane). I've played this game through at least 4 times and there are still new things to learn...

To get a good report from Carter about castle clinton, you need to enter from the secret entrance near your starting point. give some food to the starving boy and he'll tell you the code. also, no KO's/Kills on the place where Anna would strike with two other UNTATCO guys. In fact, just avoid the place.
Since you entered from the secret passage, Anna will meet you nevertheless when you've recovered the Ambrosia vaccine and she'll no longer be in front of the castle allowing you safe passage through without having to fear that she'll start pumping some bullets.

Yes.. Conversation with Gunther will be slightly differend there. There are actually three conversations you can see.
1. Kill Anna normally, and get the normal conversation of Gunther blaming you.
2. Exploit the AI and do not kill Anna. In the beginning of the game, do not give Gunther your weapon. You will get a differend conversation, where Gunther blaims you for not giving a weapon and such.
3. Exploit the AI and do not kill Anna. In the beginning of the game, give Gunther a weapon. I remember that he would thank you for it(or something), but still forced to fight (because of his loyalty to Simons/UNATCO/MJ12 who gave him an aug ;D).
