littlek; I had a similar incident in my basement wherein my dog Saijeiro (who's 1/2 Akita - 1/2 Chow & weighs about 90 lbs.) suddenly acted spooked and went tearing up the stairs (he usually loves snooping around down there). I followed a close second. I don't go down there at night anymore. :o
My incident was being awakened in the middle of the night by something heavy walking around on the roof. Normally my dog (german shepard/husky/wolf) would go into the "bark loud and bark a lot" mode alerting that something was amiss and "get up you lazy human." But this time he just did that 'low growl' that dogs do when threatened and what I never heard him do before nor since. He walked around the room looking up at the ceiling following whatever it was walking around up there. What was spooky is that whatever was up there was heavy. And not bipedal. It finally stopped above my window and I could hear the roof creak as it shifted its weight. This went on for about an hour. My dog would jump up to look out the window and then sit there looking up at the ceiling - growling. He finally snuggled up close to me and we eventually went back to sleep. Next morning I went outside to look and of course nothing resembling a Predator or an Alien was up on the roof. Now days, I kinda wished I would have gone outside to see what the hell was up there. :weird: But at the time, I was a scared little girl hiding under the covers.

Sounds like a territorial response to some local wildlife, rather than a type of PARANORMAL CREATURE

Scary story there. I'd love to know what caused the noise.
By the way, it was a good idea to not go outside and check out the situation, at least if you don't own a gun or something else to say hello to the...creature.

littlek; it was probably a raccoon. They manage to get into and onto the damndest places. And since they can grow to be rather large it's conceivable that the one on your roof was large enough to cause creaking noises.
My first thought was 'Why didn't she call 911?', but then I thought how foolish I'd have felt calling the cops on a raccoon up on my roof.
Still and all, I agree that it's probably best that you didn't go outside at that particular moment.
Just in case it wasn't a raccoon. :wot:

Since there are no raccoons here, I'd be pretty scared if I heard some(thing) walking on the roof above my bedroom. . .

Hmm now for a bit of offtrack: One of my favorite shows has to be "A Haunting" on Discovery channel. I may not fully believe it, but it is still fun to watch. And I always get this strange urge to move into the house and try to piss off the "ghost"/"demon" as much as possible. Of course, most of my ideas involve taking a sledge hammer to key parts of the house. (For example: There was suppose to be a butcher's shower in the basement in one house that the "demon's power" was strongest, and he apparently REALLY liked hanging around there. I felt some demolition and remodeling would be in order.)
Well, that's about everything that went through my head while reading the previous posts. I'm fully expecting all kinds of personal ghost/killer stories to start popping up. If they do, I can think a few myself right now(ghost only, none killer though).
I always wonder what that show would look like if they showed both sides. A lot of it sounds a bit fake, especially the little possessed boy, who sounds pretty much like an asshole trying to use possession as an excuse.
They'd probably have no material for the show any more if they did some thorough investigation/fact checking.
